We shutout a team this year, and only 1 team has scored more than 39 points on us. How could you ever think we're giving up 38 a game.

If it's any consolation, we're 57th in total defense this year which isn't that bad. We're 84th in scoring defense. If our offense could limit turnovers and move the ball more, that scoring average would go down as well.

OK. Good. So, you're a Vols fan trying to come up with a possible score for the Miss State game. The Vols are giving up an average of 28. In their last three, Miss State scored 24 vs KSU, 28 vs UK, and 23 vs Auburn. Be generous, give 'em 28 against the Vols. With Maurer behind center, the Vols scored 14 in the first half against UGA. Miss State has a suspect defense against the pass. Maurer can put a ball where it needs to be for our largely experienced receiver corps. Anticipate a successful aerial attack and a workmanlike run game from the Vols. Give the Big Orange at least one more score than the Cowbells - 35 (or 31, if you're queasy). There you have it, a prediction of Vols victory that's plausible. Herbstreit very well might agree.

Just to help out in the statistics department....Offense: Tennessee ranks 13th in total points per game in the SEC. (next to last) Should be a close game..

* What’s intriguing to me is who’s going to win the Coordinator battle? Shoop or Chaney? Both have impressive pedigrees.

Should throw the UTC score out since that was basically a high school team and meant nothing obviously.

So far, Pruitt's defenses have sucked big time here.

I would calculate it at 32.75 ppg allowed.

I wouldn’t count Chattanooga. And I personally don’t count overtime points allowed. I don’t think that’s fair to a defense. So, IMO, they didn’t give up 29 to BYU, they gave up 16.
