no and jokes are great and like I said I will be moving to Clacksville ( not sure if its spelled right ) tomorrow and just wanted to catch up on VOLS football, because I plan on attending home games if possible or I did until I see how the fans are...KY is the only other close SEC team and I be damned if I root for them....I'll always be a gator but I love college football and a game in the SEC I'll pay to watch every saturday...thats the REASON i was asking Vols nation but instead I get a ton of rude crap and smart @$$ people

And you were answered several times by several different posters. Now, people are just trying to have a little fun.

Serious question though: You said you were moving to Clarksville; so are you stationed at Fort Campbell or are you completely out of the military now?

Well we answered with the right answer...and quite quickly too. Oddly enough UT, like UF, is in the minority of teams that have real logical reasons for its nickname.

I will say that if I posted on a rival forum, I would expect to be trolled.

most I've run into (including many UT fans) think it's from the Alamo

I'll give you that. Considering how UT has used Crockett as a logo and mascot... that isn't to be unexpected.

Regardless, that still leads most you've run into knowing at least some connection between the University and Tennessee being the Volunteer state.

Good luck in Clarksville--I'm assuming you'll be at Fort Campbell, right? Enjoy the 101st, great unit to be in.

Don't take things too personally on this board. Hang around a bit and you'll see which posters are good people and which ones seem to practice being a jerk. Lots of good people in Tennessee, come and enjoy the games in Knoxville, there is no better time on earth.

yes, campbell and the 101st

Especially if you started a thread that asked a question you could have just looked up and then asked another dumbass question.

Okay, go to a Bama board.

Post this thread:

UT fan here, I just want to have a friendly debate between 2 old and storied rivals. When do you think UT/Bama will be legit again?

and then this:

Hey Bamalamalanders... why is your stadium named Bryan-Denny's? Are you getting sponsored by the restaurant?

Yeah. You should expect to get trolled on both but I think a majority will be rational and discuss on the first. The 2nd should rightfully be a trainwreck. That is showing an almost outright disrespect for a team and their traditions on their board instead of doing the easier/faster thing to satiate a legitimate curiosity and just look it up.

I hope you guys aren't very rude by me asking this or think I'm a troll, B/c I really like to talk SEC ( some vol ) football on here you guys have a very good site for such things! I know you guys are the Tennessee Volunteers, but may I ask what does smokey the dog have to do with anything Volunteer related...I am not trying to be rude guys at all I just got to thinking all the SEC teams and their Nicknames and the vols and auburn kinda puzzled me...I mean auburn is the rivers but they have an eagle, but this isn't about them...I was just wondering what does smokey have to do with Volunteers?

Thanks ahead of time for all the answers!

I didn't know Florida had an army.

okay if u wanna be jerk about it...isn't a rivalry supposed to be where both teams compete for the win and have a REAL chance of winning? if thats the case then damn UF-UT aren't even close to being a rivalry

The guy was asking about Tennessee, not Georgia. In theory, he came to the right place to get a from the horse's mouth answer but unfortunately due to Vol fans like you, he only saw an unwiped rectum of a two legged horse-like thing. I'm no gator fan but the classlessness toward a sensible question is just ridiculous. And you wonder why Gator, Bama, and Bulldog fans rub it in when they whip us on the field? Why show respect for anyone who doesn't even have any self-respect?

thank you

And the truth comes out.

You can't google but you can find the main UT forum and create a thread about how our mascot and team name don't make sense.

You were either a total mouth-breather or you're a troll. You just became both.

Every other Gator/Dawg/Bama/etc fan has gone through getting razzed... and they even posted in compete sentences and didn't call Auburn the "rivers".

Considering his account was created last month I'm not really expecting much more than what we eventually got.

seemed like a legit question, said he wanted a little background info for future conversations at UT games he plans to attend. didn't seem derogatory to me.

The state is well known for its citizens volunteering for military duty and other important actions in helping our country thoughout its history. A Volunteer quickly stands up for freedom and what is for the common good without being required to do so - even if that means giving their life in doing so. That is why a true Vol is orange blooded in good times and in bad.

Well if people want to claim the mexican war where davey died, then it most certainly wasn't about freedom. They fought over succeeding and slavery.

I've read all the posts:good!: on this thread, and you can BS all you want to, but you knew when you posted what you were going to get. I really don't want to offend a person in service to this country, but damn, that last remark is over the line unless you are a troll. If you want to see an SEC game and you are to be stationed in Clarksville, go to Vandy. It's only about an hour away and you'll fit right in.
