Tennessee (3-1, ranked #15, 0-1 SEC)
  • Passing: J. Aguilar has 906 yards, 9 TDs, 2 INT → that’s efficient and explosive.
  • Rushing: S. Thomas with 221 yards on 33 carries → about 6.7 yards per carry, strong efficiency.
  • Receiving: C. Brazzell II already at 364 yards and 5 TDs → a go-to weapon.
  • Defense: Josephs (3 sacks) and Carter (27 tackles) show Tennessee has playmakers on both ends.
Mississippi State (4-0, but untested in SEC play)
  • Passing: B. Shapen solid with 724 yards, 6 TDs, 2 INT → efficient but lower volume.
  • Rushing: Bothwell has 170 yards, 4 TDs → more red-zone usage than explosive yardage.
  • Receiving: Thompson at 278 yards, 3 TDs → reliable, but not as dominant as Brazzell.
  • Defense: Whitson (2 sacks) and Mitchell (18 tackles) are solid, but not game-wreckers compared to Tennessee’s leaders.
Matchup Predictor:
  • ESPN Analytics gives Tennessee a 76.8% chance, Mississippi State 23.2%.
Prediction:
I’d pick Tennessee to win, likely by 10–14 points. Their offense has more firepower (Aguilar + Thomas + Brazzell), and their defensive leaders are more disruptive. Mississippi State is undefeated, but most of that looks like non-conference wins—they haven’t faced an SEC opponent yet. Tennessee, despite a conference loss, has the battle-tested roster and balance to pull this one out.

Final Score Prediction: Tennessee 34 Mississippi State 21.

Are you sure? There wasn't good reason to think that then.
Most here absolutely thought we were going to destroy Arkansas. We were undefeated with an average score of 54-7, ranked in the top 5, had just beaten OU on the road after averaging and had a bye week to prepare.

Many thought that about Arkansas 2024
I feel this one is different, although state may still play their butts off.
Tenn is upset about the Georgia game and isnt going to be surprised by the Arizona state beating fighting cowbells. They remember the Arkansas game and I dont think theyll be looking ahead to Arkansas. Also, JA is no nico/milton.

I would take a 1 point win. Miss. St is much improved and Heupel’s teams don’t play well on the road. It would be a mistake to overlook Miss. St.
You are absolutely right. And we better not go conservative if we get a good lead, with anyone. The way our defense is playing we may have to score 45 or more points to win against a decent offense. And we are not getting much pressure on the qb at all. Give Ms State qb time to throw, and they will score lots of points. If we bring our a game each and every game we can win out.

MSU's rush defense is suspect. ASU had 250 yards rushing. Conversely, they aren't a good rushing team, as they averaged just 2.2 yards per rush in that game.

I haven't seen anyone slow down our passing attack. Plus, I think we will be able to run the ball effectively in this one. Shapen is a good player, and will be a fairly tough one to stop given our secondary.

I think we have a large advantage in the trenches, particularly if Moi is back (and he should be). They only have 5 sacks on the year. We haven't really given up 1 yet (Joey's only sack was on a bad snap). They're definitely improved, but i don't think they've made some unbelievable jump. They're schedule has been fairly easy so far given ASU was overrated.

UT is second in the conference behind OU by 1 sack after they had 10 against AU.

Yea, like we did with Ga. YOU CANNOT PLAY "NOT TO LOSE" AS WE DO MANY TIMES. When you have your shoe on a teams throat, apply more pressure until it can't breath anymore.
