Just a joke?

Please tell me that you are not this stupid!!

The sad thing about this is that these 3 guys are still kids.

Do I think they would have hurt anyone, no! Do I think they should be punished, yes.

I am just not sure what the punishment should be. I am not sure the answer is to kick these kids off the team and ruin their lives over this. I think kicking them off the team would assure that their lives turned out to be bad and I don't think that is the answer.

I do not think they should be able to play or practice the remainder of the year and I think they should do community service until fall camp starts next year but I don't think this should define the remainder of their life.

They are kids and they made a huge mistake. I am glad that every mistake I have made in my life was not posted on message boards all across the nation.

Just my opinion!!

So you are calling me stupid, and then agreeing with everything that I said? Haha well to each his own? I agree with you totally. These kids need this discipline, they obviously didn't learn anything growing up.

What do you know, there is a bright beacon of burning hope that there is actually some form of intelligence in you bammer fans.

Fortunately, the dude in the car wasn't packing heat, or those 2 players wouldn't be around right now.

if it was a prank they should've said something along the lines of "o sorry man, sorry man, hey it's just a joke, haha? funny right?" and then promptly reassured the two gentlemen in the car they were in no danger multiple times...i have a hard time believing it was a prank that went horribly wrong, tho ill wait til we know everything

It is no joke... I have been on the receiving end of a .45 slug during a armed robbery attempt. Lucky to be alive. It is hard to have sympathy.

So two football players -- one wearing his team's gear -- try to rob three broke stoners at a gas station with a pellet gun. The guys are broke, but they offer them cheeseburgers instead. The football players make off in a Prius.

I think the reason people keep wondering if this was a prank is because it was either that or the absolute worst, crappiest, least gangster-like crime of all time. Some pasty white prep-school kids in their Mom's Volvo could probably have done a better job. This is the most flaccid armed robbery of all time.

I agree, I think they lost all street cred with this stunt.

I'll give the OP credit for this - I can't figure out any possible reason why they would rob these guys.

This almost qualifies for a Darwin Award !

Good point. I mean, at UF, when our players pull guns on people, they are assault rifles and we actually fire them.

Your guys wuss out.

Additional reason to boot them, with the lesson: if you are going to pull a gun and rob someone so as to get kicked off the team, at least make it worth your while.

Yes. It's embarrassing, really. On the scale of Bad Ass Crimes, this is a 1. I still think Richardson and Edwards have to go, but the more I read about this case, the more appalled I am at how this stupid little incident is going to cost us two players.

Not to mention what it will cost them. Can you say "Valdosta State"?

I don't buy into the "they are just kids" line. I've seen what kids younger than these guys are capable of in this town. Just an opinion, like everyone else's, but this wasn't a prank... just an attempt to scare the 'victims' out of some more of what the cops found in her jacket. The store clerk called the cops, because nobody would call to report they'd been robbed of an illegal substance. Now the 'victims' are saying the whole thing was no big deal so there would be no repercussions toward them... Again, just an opinion...

I've actually wondered the same thing based on the strange circumstances... almost like it was a bullying type deal.

Scenario: our guys are sitting in a car with a football groupie. Its late, they're all bored, they see a couple chumps in a 1988 Hyundai. Someone has the idea, "hey, lets go scare those chumps!" So they do it, drive off - girl laughing.

No one thought it would become serious.

Just speculation is all... and either way, it was really really stupid. And the sad thing is, even if it was just a prank... the die has been cast. Perception becomes reality. 3 Tennessee football players committed armed robbery... we'll never get away from that.

So, joke or not, why are you rolling around in dark hoodies and a pellet gun?

You're wearing a hoodie because it's cold. It's black because that's badass. You're packing a pellet gun in case you run into any angry squirrels down on the strip. Duh.

Was the gas station attendant a South Carolina graduate who was getting revenge for the 10/31/09 game?

Only if:

1) You are dumber than a box of rocks; or,

2) You are stoned off you azz; or,

3) A combination of 1 and 2.

My money is on no. 3.

Chewbacca Defense.
Posted via VolNation Mobile

..ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, I have one final thing I want you to consider. Ladies and gentlemen, this is Chewbacca. Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk. But Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now think about it; that does not make sense!...

when you're in that jury room deliberatin' and conjugatin' the Emancipation Proclamation, does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, it does not make sense! If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit! The defense rests.

Classic :good!:

If it was a joke, it was as funny as if one of the victims had a carry permit and shot both of them.

In light of everything going on, I'm wondering if this was more of a joke then an actual hold-up. (if this has already been posted I apologize). Think about it. Of all reports Nuke and Mike approached the car, and lethargically demanded money while brandishing a pellet gun. The victims in the car even stated "I knew they weren't going to be violent because of the tone of their voice, they just asked for the money and when they realized we didn't have it they left." Usually when you're getting car jacked they take SOMETHING right? Also, they said that the girl was just laughing like it was a joke.

If I had to guess I would assume they were showing off trying to be baddazzez for this chick.. for whatever reason. Like a UT athlete needs to work to get women!?

Thoughts?

No it wasen't a joke. It was attempted robbery.

Because thats what "cool" 18 year olds do.

Hoodies are where its at. They make you look like a BA... give you street cred... even if you're rollin in a baby blue prius wielding a pellet gun.
