In light of everything going on, I'm wondering if this was more of a joke then an actual hold-up. (if this has already been posted I apologize). Think about it. Of all reports Nuke and Mike approached the car, and lethargically demanded money while brandishing a pellet gun. The victims in the car even stated "I knew they weren't going to be violent because of the tone of their voice, they just asked for the money and when they realized we didn't have it they left." Usually when you're getting car jacked they take SOMETHING right? Also, they said that the girl was just laughing like it was a joke.

If I had to guess I would assume they were showing off trying to be baddazzez for this chick.. for whatever reason. Like a UT athlete needs to work to get women!?

Thoughts?

It would be the worst joke ever. In the history of jokes. Even worse than Late Late Night with Carson Daly. Awful.

I don't think it matters. the joke defense hasn't worked in the history of armed robbery defenses. the judge is going to play a joke on them and send them to jail

It wasnt a joke. It was a couple dumba*ses acting like complete fools. Well, I guess in a way, it was a joke, but its on them.

I've actually wondered the same thing based on the strange circumstances... almost like it was a bullying type deal.

Scenario: our guys are sitting in a car with a football groupie. Its late, they're all bored, they see a couple chumps in a 1988 Hyundai. Someone has the idea, "hey, lets go scare those chumps!" So they do it, drive off - girl laughing.

No one thought it would become serious.

Just speculation is all... and either way, it was really really stupid. And the sad thing is, even if it was just a prank... the die has been cast. Perception becomes reality. 3 Tennessee football players committed armed robbery... we'll never get away from that.

nice way of putting it.

My wife had a cat that used to run out of the garage as i was closing it every morning. This would make the door go back up. Until one day the idiot cat cut it to close and the door closed on her head. As luck would have it, she was alright but she never tried that crap ever again. Never even got close. Moral of the story - doing something wrong (against the law) is a crime and you will eventually get caught and have to be punished enough to scare the crap out of you. Do same thing again and you deserve what ever is coming to you. Kids are lucky they didn't get a bullet.

yeah funny joke. I know how I would be laughing at 2 o'clock in the morning when some beast of fellow threw a gun in my face wanting in my wallet. But it doesn't make any sense. These perps were unmasked and just walked up to the car???? Something doesn't add up.

i agree with u here...ive grown up in south florida ft lauderdale area my whole life..and yes i am white. having said that i can totally see this as being to cocky athletes who are with a girl and wanted to mess with some "white boys" and try to scare them..in no way am i condoning what they did but i can tell u on several occasions that i have been the aim of these what they call "punks"... lets go mess with the white boy make him empty out his pockets or tell him we want his shoes..just to see what my reaction would be and if i was scared or not..it was a terrible thing that they did which im sure they are going to regret for the rest of there lives but i for one do not believe that it was there intent to steal 30 dollars from some guys at 2 oclock in the morning and risk there lives or just some stupid kids from the hood trying to mess with some white boys and impress a girl i refuse to believe that

Ask the State of TN if its all a joke. The prison is full of thugs that said it was all a big joke or misunderstanding. The grand jury will indict these three and they will be lucky to stay out of jail.

i understand what ur saying...but think of it this way..if the gas attendant didnt call the cops the 2 "victims" even said they wernt going to do anything..its because they wernt afraid they knew someone was messing with them they dont want to press charges and they were joking with the so called "armed robbers" with there pellet gun saying u can have my cheese burger are u kidding they were even laughing in the interview about it...a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE mistake which once again i dont condone at all but was nothing more than a stupid prank or scare which turned out to ruin there lives

If they were high, it would of been a very funny joke to them at the time. I doubt they were that serious about it considering they used a pellet gun.

I should edit this thread. I meant more of a prank or sorts. Just something like "hey watch this, let's run up on the fools and scare'em." Regardless of how unfunny you think it is I can totally see it going this way. Remember these are kids that aren't exactly hard for cash. They live for free basically and get a free education. They may be dumb but they at least know that. If they wanna drink its bought for them, food's free.. why rob someone? Doesn't make sense as far as the accusation goes. I guarantee this is how it washes out on the other end, but man does it make our institution look dumb. Kids will be kids though, and these are young kids.

Step back and take a big look at the picture. If they were actually robbing them and used excessive force then yes, kick them off the team and put them in jail. It WASN'T a real gun either. I'm sure the victims in the car would rather see them with internal punishment rather than be kicked off the team. These kids need the discipline that CLK can provide them, and help turn them into great young men. These kids aren't from the burbs either. They were brought up in rougher areas than most of us know. Give them a chance guys, don't throw them back in the gutter and let them wind up killing somebody. Remember Maurice Clarette? Let's put a positive spin on it. Find another way to slam the hammer down on them.

Please tell me that you are not this stupid!!

The sad thing about this is that these 3 guys are still kids.

Do I think they would have hurt anyone, no! Do I think they should be punished, yes.

I am just not sure what the punishment should be. I am not sure the answer is to kick these kids off the team and ruin their lives over this. I think kicking them off the team would assure that their lives turned out to be bad and I don't think that is the answer.

I do not think they should be able to play or practice the remainder of the year and I think they should do community service until fall camp starts next year but I don't think this should define the remainder of their life.

They are kids and they made a huge mistake. I am glad that every mistake I have made in my life was not posted on message boards all across the nation.

Just my opinion!!

I'll get to you later turd, don't you have stb probation to worry about? You act like the great state of Alabama is perfect.. you know about the ghosts in your closet my friend. You worry about your team and we will worry about ours. What a life you must have to troll another teams webpage and post your worthless comments here and there that have no bearing on anything.

Do me a favor, go get your crimson jersey, a houndstooth blanket, and go back to your room and suck your thumb baby boy because reality is about to smack that arrogant Alabama grin off your face. I was at the game and I saw the fear when we lined up to kick that field goal. Yes it was eventually blocked but the fear is still there because you know what is coming.. and you can't do a damn thing about it.
