[Plano Vol]

I respect anyone who has served our country in whatever venue our country has seen fit to place them but I can't think of a more thrilling and frightening experience than to assault something as massive as Hitler's Atlantic wall. Having many kin in Virginia, the stories of the 29th's travails on Omaha Beach resonant loudly.

Just wanted to remember the day and say thanks to all that have served and those that continue to serve.

while I appreciate all who have served and all who went before me in making ours the greatest military of the greatest nation in the history of the world, the men who carried out D Day have a special place to me. I'll never forget my visits to to those unbelievably long rows of simple white headstones that littered the Normandy countryside.

I do not think he stormed the beach at Normandy, but my uncle on my mother's side fought in the Battle of the Bulge. I can remember being a little kid and him showing me his collection of knives and guns he saved. He was a really neat man.

my grandfather's battalion got delayed. they arrived on June 7. he also worked through several concentration camps. worst part is, i didn't appreciate what he did as kid, and now that he's gone i want to know more.

Likewise, I am humbled and awed by all that have made the sacrifice since.

he was, however, fortunate to be selected by Reader's Digest to do a documentary on the war. they show war footage and pictures from that time with my grandfather in the background narrating his story. incredibly moving stuff. i've only been able to watch it once.
