Jumper and the rest..

Jumper had been out there wrestling with 300 lb lineman all day. Were not matching size for size ever at the point of attack.

Then you throw a FRESH and fast 6'2 235 Rb at him...
He was ineffective... but he didn't quit.

Bituli should have gotten snaps at MLB. Or Bryant. Jumper had no wind, not to mention Scorborough is a freak.

If you're winded you come out. Everyone knows that. He gave a have hearted effort to tackle. That was obvious. He;s making tackles 7-8 yds down field instead of shedding and standing his ground. Maybin does it. DKJr does it, Boulware from Clemson does, Cichy from Wisc also. Jumper is barely serviceable. Berry did fill some, but he will get better with more snaps just like Jumper has. He has improved, but man, he's got a long way to go to be good. Reveiz he's not.

I couldn't agree more. He does not engage the offense and is very slow reacting. He wouldn't be in Alabama's 4 deep.

Phillips played snaps
I've really been surprised he has not gotten more reps given his speed. I watched Vereen two steps behind Hurts all day filling his outside gap, we needed speed out there, Phillips reportedly has it. Vereen's a good player but he was exposed by Bama running at his outside shoulder.

Of course Berry looks lost because they will not play others unless forced to. the reason you have so may injuries is fatigue. they won't put other players in. where were Phillips and Kongbo. they gassed their defense.

One does not play a 4th string player unless ones experiences the injuries we have had this year. Even with a 40 point lead, you do not get down to the 4th string when the 2nd and 3rd string players need the experience.

Elliott Berry is the first linebacker other than JRM that I've seen get down hill and make a tackle at the line of scrimmage. He did make some mistakes but he hasn't played much. I've been impressed with Jumper every game since Florida. Kid is playing hard.

How did you like watching your first game last Saturday?

That right side was so prone to huge runs. It was frustrating watching Bama establish the running game and knowing Hurts could easily reach that right side. Berry did well pass protection but struggled in running situations. It's understandle because he's undersized and has little experience.

Don't understand why Thig gets a pass when Mahoney don't. LB play hasn't been very good even with Kirkland and JRM.

There has been more depth at the OL than LB until last week. Everyone know that these two positions are where we have the least depth. That also happens to be the positions where the most injuries have occurred. The CB and Safety positions are now on the endangered list.

You may not agree but IMO I haven't really saw our linebackers other than JRM and Elliot Berry get down hill and make a play at the line of scrimmage from the linebacker position. Unless they were blitzing. I don't think Dk does a very good job of it. He usually is getting blocked and making tackles 3 or 4 yards down field.

This is a good point. Also, a lot of posters, hell, most posters seem to want Debord fired, but not a word about Shoop, when our defense has been bad since App State. Amazing how people pick a villain and so many others join in and pile on. I think Debord has done as good a job if not better than Shoop, that's for sure.

:eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol:

Where were all of you experts last year when JRM and Kirkland were not injured?

The ignorance in this thread is overwhelming!!!

I hope Bituli and some other youngsters have the raw material to play well....

Jumper, Bates, McDowell, and even Berry are simply not SEC caliber. Please learn to watch some d&*#$ film and it is EASY TO SEE!!!:):crazy::crazy:

A few observations:

Jumper continues to improve
Still prone to mistakes but they are fewer and fewer
Plays hard every play
Was it just me but did Elliott Berry look lost
Bates never impresses
Behind Maybin and Kirkland, jumper might be our best LB

Where does this leave the Vols in rushing defense?

Do the coaches send you the all22? If so, please send it my way when you've finished grading. Thanks!

Do you actually have anything to say other than sounding like an old woman going thru "the change?"

Can you not watch the film on youtube of the games and see enough for yourself? It ain't really that hard to see....

What are you talking about "even with JRM and Kirkland"? Those two guys have a lot of tackles between them. With just those two we beat A&M. I respectfully couldn't disagree with you more about their play.

Elliott played hard. He looked lost when Jumper had him shift. Colton may be playing well after the ball is snapped, but he still needs to improve on directing others.

Bates effort impresses me, Your observations, on the other hand.......

Might have something to do with Shoop being here a year longer. And several former Vols have been critical of DeBord as well. AND Shoop lost JRM, Sutton, and Kirkland.

Of course, much of it has to do with the initial impression of each hire. In reality, it's probably more crap luck than anything. But don't tell some Vols fans that. If you aren't undefeated and humiliating every team on the schedule, you are wasting their time.
