judging by the empty seats...

it is if you're from Memphis or anywhere more than 5 or 6 hours away.

it's a factor, but not enough to merit that many seats being empty in the student section tonight. i've been to every kentucky game in knoxville since '02, and its always been filled up, except for tonight.

i'm just saying that there was more to the equation for that many students to miss

that didnt seem to be a problem at any other kentucky game in knoxville the last few years. thanksgiving break isn't as big of a factor as some people make it out to be.

Never been to a game over Thanksgiving. I get limited time to see my family so it's kind of an easy choice. By the way, I too ponied up the $90 for season tickets and this was the only game I missed all season.

Yes it is.

People just bought the student tickets and went. This year, people didn't go to fill the empty student section up.

All you guys must have been spending time with family about 7 weekends this fall.

I don't want to hear your "I'm a die-hard" excuses. The general student body consensus is that they "are poor college students" that have to pay tuition. Your beer bongs and solo cups cost you 90 dollars a month.

Before I get a smart a response I know that there are exceptions, but if you are one of those exceptions, get off a message board and go get a job.

i know, i'm not saying that the low turnout falls entirely with the students because it doesn't. a crappy season plus crappy weather is going to keep away fans, student or not

whatever the individual motives it was very embarrassing for such a huge chunk of seats to be empty and eventually claimed by upper-deck UK fans. this was a big game imo and the students have shown they do not deserve those seats.

for the record, i think its a sham students now have to pay for their tickets

Agreed, 100%. They were part of the student activities fee when I went there in the 80's.

But on another note, I would not have been there on Thanksgiving weekend either.

Clemson-South Carolina was today and people camped out for a week for tickets to this game. The student section was above capacity. Clemson football is just as much of a disappointment as Tennessee this year.

Students should show up. Most live in east Tennessee as it is.

you missed a panic show to see the vols play? i question your motives.

i saw last night...missed a good set tonight, but it was worth it.

btw, i like my family just fine...and if you're a student, you'll be done in less than 2 weeks. thanksgiving has never been an issue before, why would it be a 7000 seat issue tonight?

It's not the free tickets or $90 season tickets, IT IS THE DEADZONE.

It hasn't been just the student section this year, a ton of seats have been empty......all for the same reason!

THE TEAM HAS NOT ONLY BEEN TERRIBLE RECORD WISE, BUT THEY AREN'T EXCITING TO WATCH!

Just give UT students free tickets---more would show up.

98% or more of every other student fan base has to pay to go to their games, why should UT be an exception? The students have been bigger babies about having to pay for their seats than Vicky has been the past three weeks.

Upper deck was very empty. There was not even close to 102K there. I know they announce tickets sold and not a true attendance.

Of course they live in East Tennessee, they are students at UT.

Unless you are saying that most students are from East Tennessee, then I have to wonder why you would just make something up.

Most students are not from East TN. Most are from Mid and West Tn and a huge number is from outside the state.

I didn't speak for everyone. I did say that I can give you 3,325 reasons why I'm not there. I agree that money is not the issue for everyone; however, it is the issue with me (along with the awful weather). It just kind of seemed like everyone was trying to knock us for being pseudo-fans or what have you.

I guess my point was that not all of us hate the Vols and give up on them when the going gets tough. It only makes the decision not as hard when asking, "Should I get out in this awful weather and spend 35-50 dollars (gf ticket, lol)?" Don't get me wrong, I'll be watching every second of it on TV.

I paid $5 to park and would have given you a ticket for free.

http://oira.tennessee.edu/stats/students/profile/profile06.pdf

According to this, almost 85% of students are from Tennessee.

and according to this

http://thecreports.state.tn.us/CountyPDF/Knox.pdf

Over 6,000 students enrolled at UT are from Knox County ALONE.

To think that most students aren't from the east Tennessee area is ridiculous. You may have more friends in dorms and such from other areas, but you have to remember people living in ET most likely commute.
