Sounds like a snake oil salesman.

I know, I know, he's saying things we want to hear about Heupel, and disrespects both Mullen and Kiffin just the way we like.

Still sounds more like a confidence man (con man) than a serious strategist. I've known a ton of leadership/management/organizational advisers/consultants/strategists in my life, I mean a ton of them, and I never saw one who had the hubris to call himself a "judgement expert." Heh.

Go Vols!

Smithmier didn’t say anything that the average college football fan can’t conclude for themselves after paying attention for more than 10 minutes.

For those who don’t care to read it:

1. Saban doesn’t want to retire
2. Kiffin is unstable
3. Butch and Pruitt don’t know how to run a program
4. Players have bought in to Heupel
5. Mullen is a close but no cigar coach.

Yes, he’s actually paid money to come up with these observations

Very Interesting article. It's cool to see the correlation between these coach's personalities and their success or potential success. Seems like understanding what needs to be done vs. actually being able to get it done is the bridge that needs to be built, if any one of these coaches is gonna be able to make a run at Saban like success.

So, he just wrote letters to a handful of schools calling himself an "expert" and landed a (likely high paying) gig at Alabama?

I've been judging people my whole life, for free. What have I been thinking?

Folks, I am officially a Whiskey Expert. If you need anyone to come and drink your whiskey, I will oblige for a small fee. Who am I kidding, I'll do it for free.

I thought exactly the same thing.

This guy didn’t just wake up one day and become an expert. Read his LinkedIn profile. He spent 22 years as a President and CEO and has since help multiple business consultant positions

I don’t think he’s wrong. Mullen’s mismanagement of his qb’s, his reluctance to replace Grantham, and his recruiting woes will be his undoing. Kiffin has moxy and is an excellent play caller, but he uses a lot of smoke and mirrors (defensive fake injuries) to help him win games. Coupled with his lack of integrity, that’s not sustainable.

As for Heupel, we’re in wait and see. He seams to have the integrity, playcalling, and the team is currently bought in. It won’t be fair to judge him in recruiting until the NCAA investigation and judgement is behind us.

Sure, but there aren't really any prerequisites to being a "Judgement Expert" on people, so he kind of did.
VolNation is full of judgment experts. Don't need the extra articles.

Kifffen - Cheater in life and on the field.
Pruitt - Was in over his head from A'ight (sp).
Butch - Would get fired from Hallmark for his crappy slogans.
Mullen - Better under the radar coach than one with expectations.
Saban - Still think he made a deal with you know who.

Heupel - Told players to bring the mustard before the Bama game so...... Good guy IMEO

Honorable Mention - Dooley - Always had a surprised look on his face. Even when he was the one calling the plays.

My thoughts exactly. Seems like one of those types who’s main achievement is peddling his superficial analysis of the achievements of better men. Reminds me of a lot of the crappy college courses I’ve been forced to take.
