JP is all messed up

Thread is ridiculous. Fandom based on opinion and coach like/dislike or player like/dislike. X & Os, recruiting, development.

CJP is a reality check as to what's been wrong with our program since Fulmer's Firing and the Cheek's, Hamilton's, Hart's, Haslam's, Davenport's and Curry's of the world got overly involved and managed (micro) everything about UT Athletics and it's programs.

Football was number 1 on the list.

It will take CJP a while so just ride the wave what have you got to lose...nothing. We have been riding the roller coaster for several years 11 -15 years and most of the Assistants that left or were fired have had success.

Someone ask if CJP was going to turn UT into a winner or if UT was going to turn CJP into a loser? Before Fulmer as AD or after Fulmer as AD? Depends on the Administration's role, Don't you think.

CJP is a Reality Check to the State of Our Football program....This is what happens when you recruit friends kids and don't recruit to your X and O needs and you get the ones that look good on paper but you can't develop them.

I think you can tell he is extremely frustrated at what he has to work with. I mean almost every week he talks about guys not doing their jobs correctly.

He's used to haveing 4-5 stars into the 2-deep, and he's never going to have that sort of depth at UT. Even after 5 recruiting classes, he still won't have the level of talent that he's had as a coordinator at other stops.

If that's what he needs to beat a team like South Carolina, we are in for another half-decade of misery.

UT can recruit with anybody so I refuse to believe this statement. I’m sure a lot of players were drooling when Clemson was offering them 5-6 years ago....

Again this was about op calling ot JG. But Palmer has to win those battles. If you get your hands on the ball, you have to finish the play. The db did a good job, but Palmer proved he can do it against Auburn. He needed to squeeze and tuck ball. He simply got beat, which is not JGs fault

Indeed it was JG’s fault for throwing late and about 10 yards short, allowing the DB to sit, wait, and crawl up Plamers back.

^^^THIS TIMES A THOUSAND. I am tired of everyone talking about how great JG is. Keller Chyrst was putting the ball on the money and getting rid of the ball quick against Bama. Didn't Saban even say we threw something at them they didn't expect with KC? Did Bama adjust to it? YES But, KC lead UT to two TDs vs Bama. How many TDs did JG lead UT to vs Bama??? ZERO!!!

We had a bowl game on the line. How can coaches watch film of the Alabama game and not see the precision passes KC made and YET come out and attempt to fool the vol fans and act as if we fans, nor the coaches saw what happened or what we saw never happened. Go back and watch it again. This is COACHING failure and a coach being hard headed and NOT PLAYING THE QB THAT GAVE US THE BEST CHANCE TO WIN. Let KC prove himself on the field as a winner or not. How did you like those passes sailing over those players heads. Those receivers had to be running backs last night because most every completion was behind the line. Do you actually think that type passing will lure BIG PLAY RECEIVERS TO THIS TEAM. I'D BE SURPRISED IF A SPEEDSTER RECEIVER RECRUIT SAW A GAME WITH JG AND THAT HE COULD NOT HIT HIS RECEIVERS DOWNFIELD THAT THE RECEIVER WOULD WANT TO BE HERE. ''''' YOUR NOT GOING TO SELL A HIGHLY RATED RECEIVER ON PLAYING WITH JG NEXT YEAR OR THE YEAR AFTER...

You tell them brother. When you can't spot the difference between a QB who hits his receivers and one who can't then there are problems there. Thats what frustrates me with this coaching staff. TBH I really don't know if JG can improve. Even the best OL's can only keep the D off the QB for a few seconds

Yet we don't. Our high recruiting classes under Butch were due to the sheer number of players in the class. If you are a coach that can take a 3-star and get more out if the player, then yeah we can recruit with anyone. Everyone has nice training facilities, nice stadiums, fan support, and players don't care about tradition.

The best players are going to go to school that gives them the best shot at getting into the NFL, and UT is not that school, and hasn't been for a long time.

I don’t get the G hate.
Kid plays his ass off for Tennessee.

He still holds the ball too long and wasn’t perfect but he’s coming along. He isn’t staring down receivers as bad. His ball fakes are greatly improved and he’s finding the checkdowns and hot routes now.

Not sure why he’s Pruitts choice over the others but I’ve seen enough Tennessee football to realize that the backup qb is very rarely the answer.

I’m with ya. I was so furious with him for holding the ball on that last play so long but in the end, it was our D that was gashed. Last back up that came in and had success? Maybe Dobbs? Rick Clausen? I can’t remember.

Pulls Banks out of RB spot. Says he is having a hard time holding on to the ball. Doesn't give the Kid time to train. Moves him (did he play linebacker tonight)
How many plays did his replacement who ran hard and ran the TD play
But, he leaves a QB in the game that can hardly complete a pass 10 yards down the field.. Overthrows, underthrows and just plain misfires
Yet he leaves a QB on the bench who can throw the stupid ball
Where is that seam route Ty ran last week for a TD catch down the middle.
How many times was KC on his back last week...
How many passes of 10 yds or more ( right on the money) did KC have last week
JEREMY PRUITT SAYS HE DOES ALL THIS MOVING TO GET THE BEST PLAYERS ON THE FIELD

JP better be up front with Vol Nation because believe it or not we remember what you say to those reporters and in press conferences
Vol Nation will not stand for this next year and maybe not week after next...
We trust you until we begin to have reason not to.
JP gets paid big money to make the right player calls. If he stays with JG he will have to live with them

Opinions are like a$$holes, we have one and they usually stink. Thanks for yours.

Is there any reason why we can’t get back to that?

Why do people hate Guarantano so much? Dude, did you watch the game? JG helped our offense put up 24 points, which should have been enough to win this game. The defense got one stop the entire second half.

A bunch of y'all don't know jack about football.

This is the best post I have witnessed on volnation in months!

I don’t think our fans ever watched Chryst play at Stanford......he is a grad transfer that got benched and never completed more than 56% of his passes.... He is a great back up but JG gives us the best chance to win.

JG may be better which is not saying a lot but I don't get this "he lost his job at Stanford" argument like we have been remotely close to their level over the last many years. They have been BCS level for several years. The grandstanding like there is no way they could've had two QB's better than what we had on the roster after Dobbs is a weak argument.

I feel like Helton called a good to very good game...especially at the beginning of the second half. Thought that except for a few instances that the defense were in position but played tired to haphazard in the second half after taking it to SC in the first. Still about instilling football smarts/instincts in those that are teachable and recruiting over those that ain’t. Frustrated and disappointed in last night’s game? Yes. Resigned to failure and needing company in my depression bunker?

No. Did you watch all the Stanford games? The fact that Shaw replaced a QB because he wanted to win should let you know it's about wins and performance. If all QB's never improved then why do we expect JG to ever develop the intangibles? Or will he continue to be a "he completes 70% when he has time". I don't know about you but I would much rather have timely impact plays. Tee Martin wasn't a 70% passer but let the game be on the line and the team just needs something. He was going to make it more often than not.

The South Carolina QB has been ridiculed all season for his pedestrian play but as bad as he looked early there he was carving us up late with a timely pass or run.

Now clearly the Vols defense sucked last night but a difference making QB should be able to get us a FG in the 4th in a winnable game.

I am not hating on JG, I just don't want to become the current day Miami Hurricanes with a QB that is average and we discuss ad nauseam why we can't get over the hump but all of our rivals know why. JG just still needs to grow. I will be the first to credit him for a good play, a good game but I will criticize him for the opposite but I will not name call him out of pettiness.

I personally think JG has been of the best bright spots of the team....Has he made all the right plays? No but he has definitely not been the issue with this team. The coaches see Chryst every single day in practice and have determined that he does not give us the best chance to win.He played really well against bama but we were already down by 20 plus so it’s not exactly the same as starting out the game against them.

This let down was on our defense in the 2nd half. Vols had a 21-9 lead at half. JG did miss some throws, but he did put up 21 points to their 9. Defense just looked lost in the 2nd half. The only thing Pruitt really did that I didn’t like was not trying to score again before halftime. Vols had the ball with 40+ seconds on clock, and 1 timeout. I would have at least tried moving down field for a field goal at least. I can see him maybe trying to avoid a turnover, but again, he went for it on 4th and 7 instead of kicking a field goal later in the game when it was more important to take the 3. Hindsight is 20/20, I guess.

Please be specific and let us know of all the drops by the receivers. I saw possibly one or two. JG had at least 4 guys wide open that he overthrew! I am not saying he is the problem. But, I still say KC is better.

I think I saw Palmer drop 2 good passes.

Is there any reason why we can’t get back to that?

What does UT currently bring to the table that Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Clemson, don't do better in terms of coaching and player development?

Early playing time is not going to get 4-5 star players on campus.

And what did Clemson and Alabama have to offer prior to Saban and Dabo have prior to there success. That’s my point I’m trying to get across. Florida is still currently trying to build but Mullen inherited a much better situation then when did and we know what Kirby got in GA.

What they did, doesn't matter, it's what they are doing now that we have to compete with on the recruiting trail.

We are a middling SEC team at best in this recruiting climate. If Pruitt can't find ways to win with majority 3-star players, then he's not going to find success here.

and I’m sure those fans of those schools were questioning the same things I’m doing right now. We live in a what have you done for me lately world. TN is not a 3 star school
