JP Estrella OUT tonight

I try not to comment on injuries in a way that would infringe on privacy. it doesn't take a detective to note that JP has been very cautious with his lower body over the early part of this season, and played a game that is limited due to that. I've pointed out before that the physical aggression and jumping we recall from his Freshman year have been absent. Over the last couple of weeks, he began to move people with his lower body, rebound better, pivot strongly from back to goal position, and jump on shots. Soreness is not a great sign. The positive results of the X-ray aren't a complete picture. Foot surgeries for big athletes are particularly dicey as the required healing period doesn't delineate when it's safe to fully return to all action. These kids know how to play through pain, but you can't do that with a foot post surgery. I hope he heals and plays, but I really hope his foot can heal fully long term.
I do not like the sound of your post. I hope that I'm overthinking this.

Yeah with JP his long term career is on the line. Hopefully he heals fully and can come back this season.

I don't have any special insight beyond what's been reported. I heard he was being cautious early per trainers, and that he didn't share anything about pain until prior to the Oklahoma game. All that has been reported. I just don't think we as fans understand how good he can be at full strength with his developing game. I hope we get to see that on the road to a long career.

I’m on record as stating our March success hinges on adding a fully healthy JP to JG &Nate’s current level of excellence. Sounds like JP is going to continue to remain a big maybe unfortunately for both him and this year’s squad.

My question just becomes do we or does he ever actually see that if this is yet another shut it down situation. That would be 3/3 on not playing a full season and iirc his SR year was also cut short. The idea behind shutting him down last year, doing surgery, limiting him in summer and easing his minutes early this year was to see a full strength Estrella by December/January, if doing all that results in just another injury and shut down I have my concerns. I really like the kid and the potential but this is also a business now, can you feel any sort of confidence about him next year as being someone you can rely on if this again is another shut down situation?

I think if he shuts it down again Barnes would have to look at adding a portal center next year. It would be hard to trust the health of JPs foot at that point.

Hopefully just some wear and tear but have to be careful. That said, JPs knees, ankles and feet may never not be sore. Part of the price paid down the line.

Thanks as always for the added context while respecting JP's privacy...it's easy for some to critique, or outright denigrate, him as a player and ignore his limited collegiate experience as well as the role his past injury(ies) still affect his game. Praying JP can stay healthy for his sake first and foremost.

I see All SEC in his future if he can stay healthy
