And we have fans that still can't comprehend why Jones was trying to redshirt him this season if he could.

I don't understand it to be honest if the reason he wasn't playing is to save a redshirt. With Dobbs starting the whole year, we would be 7-3 right now and that's a fact. Not a knock on Worley either, but Dobbs changes the whole way the offense works. Just don't understand the mentality of a coach that would settle for losses in the short term in hopes of having an extra year for a QB 3 years from now.

People wanna talk about hindsight. That kind of future sight is also ridiculous IMO. Who knows what the future holds.

These people talking redshirt and stuff would change their tune if Worley never got hurt and we went 5-7 again. Confidence in Jones would be at an all-time low and there would be serious pressure form the fan base to fire Bajakian. Lucky for us (and the coaches) Worley got hurt. Sounds harsh, but it's the truth

Maybe cause part of the reason he convinced him to come here was because he would do what he could to ensure his success as a student? That is priority for Dobbs and his parents.

It's been said time an time again that dobbs had issues with accuracy in practice.

Apparently both Worley and peterman performed better than dobbs in practice, which is what coaches have to base their decisions off of.

It just so happens that when dobbs got the chance to come in the game vs bama and the next 2 games he was able to do 2 main things the other qb's couldn't: move outside of the pocket when he sensed it was collapsing and make plays on the run, and he was able to perform under pressure and not freeze up under the spotlight.

I agree. One could assume that Joshua, his parents and CBJ sat down to formulate a plan for his College years. Prioritized his workload. CBJ and Staff had every intention of honoring it from day one.

Circumstances changed twice and Joshua Dobbs was put into action. CBJ Kept his word. So many coaches at all levels, program players for failure.

Putting Dobbs in earlier in the season may have been a disaster for this young man and we might be sitting at 3 - 7 right now going into the final to games with Peterman at QB.

So there really are no facts just speculation.

Maybe he practiced differently than he plays. Some guys are just "gamers."

To sit around and whine and complain about what could have been is just wasted energy. Let's just get to 7-5 and get to a bowl and end up 8-5 and in the top 25. Would be a nice season and great springboard for next.

It seems most who reported stated that he didn't look good in practices, so it's hard to say. The fact he was listed as 3rd string either backs up the poor practices or was Butch's way of trying to make sure he red shirted.

Maybe because your assumption is invalid. You have assumed that his playing ability at the start of the season was at the same level as it is now. Your assumption maybe true or it may not be true. What if your assumption is not true? We all know what assume means especially when you rant.

Just posted this article I saw on Twitter in another thread. From Vol DailyNews....

"So in August, based on what Jones and Bajakian have said (and I wasn’t here yet for the beginning, so based on what the other guys on the beat have told me about the first 10 days or so of camp) Justin Worley was very sharp on his throws, Dobbs missed on some of his routine passes and the dynamics of practice didn’t give him much opportunity to prove the value of his mobility. Worley was named the starter with about two weeks still remaining before the opener. With Nathan Peterman performing well enough to be what the Vols considered a serviceable backup, the Vols moved to take advantage of the fact that Dobbs still had a redshirt year remaining.

Dobbs opened eyes once the season got to the first game week and he was running the second-team offense against the first-team defense in service periods and acting as Chuckie Keaton in Utah State prep and then as Fredi Knighten for Arkansas State. But by that point, it was Worley’s job and he was playing very effectively, throwing for 520 yards and five touchdowns in the first two weeks. He had his flaws and made his mistakes, but most of the issues with the offense came from the porous offensive line and even many of Worley’s mistakes came because he was under pressure or pressing to make plays. Couple that with the intangibles of Worley, a respected senior leader, and it was difficult for the Tennessee coaching staff to consider demoting him, despite the possibility that it might improve the offense."
