Smith will be fine when he gets over the drops. We may need to feed him the ball when it's not 3rd down so that there's less pressure to rebuild his confidence but the kid has potential and lots of it. Other WRs have had drops all year too but Smith's stand out because of when his have happened. Taking pressure off him by giving other players reps (if they can get open) might also help.

That said, his problems right now are mental: too worried about the catch and basically overthinking it because he's had prior drops. It happens all the time to WRs even pro WRs.

Coaches get fired every year, at every level of football. And it's not because they have philosophical differences. It's because they are fallible and make mistakes. If you put all your faith in coaching staffs your faith must look a lot like swiss cheese. Goobers like you ALWAYS same the same shiite...and once their coaching hero gets the pink slip, then you join the pitchfork party. Sit down and STFU.

If I remember correctly, Parlardy was killed on this board last year. There should be an asterisk or color code for fans who slam players so everyone will know you and which players you slammed. We need accountability on this board. You should not be banned just recognized.
This way if a player works hard & improves like Parlardy then you should then be suspended for a couple of games. I love the analysis that some give on this board but some add nothing yet want to be taken seriously.
Here is one Vol fan who hopes Josh Smith catches the winning touchdown vs, Auburn. Well with this bunch it wouldn't matter. They would say its about time and move on.

Go back through history and you will see very few WRs were forced into playing time as true freshmen. Josh Smith is playing because he's the best option they have. He is giving his all for Tennessee every day.

Josh is a competitor and he will succeed at UT. There a lot of folks rooting for him.

Ya see people, this particular fan is the freaking problem! Always have to throw something cute out there to cover up for their huge mistakes. Well, even if he caught those passes we still lose.....Really?!! Why don't you just agree, man up and say he stinks and cost us a big TD score! The coddlers love softening the blows with cute, witty retorts...gets old.

Guys seriously Josh does get open but What good is a cowboy who comes to a gunfight with the biggest gun but can't hit a target. The gun is useless at that point and he'll get killed. Croom and Johnson have been more consistent hands wise and it's time to fall back and allow him to develop. Last week too many crucial drops by J. Smith bottom line.

The saddest part of coming here to VN is seeing so many immature, dumb people trashing a 18 year old kid that was playing good football in high school this time last year.

None of you on this board can do any better or you'd be playing somewhere.

None of you are even decent coaches or you'd be coaching on a college or NFL staff somewhere.

Trashing a good 18 year old kid is just low class and stupid.

By his Senior year this kid could turn out to be magatron Jr for all any of you computer commandos know.

bUTch says he has the best hands on the team on the PRACTICE field so now he has to develope some more and learn how to take his catching skills to the field on Gameday.

When you do well at practice you EARN the right to get some opportunities in the real game so you can gain real game knowledge and experience.

This young kids hates his drops more than any of us do and he's mentally kicking himself and berating himself bad enough so he doesn't need any help getting kicked by a bunch of drunk fans that couldn't catch a cold without help.

He needs encouragement and confidence so I sure hope he never logs on here at VN and reads the immature, childish garbage being thrown at him by many of you people.

He's much better at getting open than anyone else on our team and that says alot about his skills and desire so when he starts making catches consistently I hope you people will grow a pair, man up and come eat your crow but that will never happen because you'll hope everyone will forget you bashing a good 18 year old kid and suddenly you'll become his biggest fans, buy his jersey and hope you can get the kids autograph and a pic of you with him.

You people are seriously pathetic and shouldn't even be Tennessee fans because you have nobodys back when times are tough and they're working hard and trying their best.

Even the best WR's in the NFL have bad games and alot of drops and they've had many more years of practice and games than this 18 year old kid has had.

Lots of people here on VN simply need to grow up and shut up since you don't even care anough about Tennessee football to have their backs and show real fan support when they need that support and encouragement the most.

What a load of crap that 1 of you proudly says he sold his game tickets...HORSECRAP...You're nothing but a lowlife TROLL so get off OUR Tennessee board and go stroke yourself on whatever team you really support.

He's a freshman making freshman mistakes but in a year or 2 this kid will be catching alot of passes along with North, Croom and several others and you'll be crying when our Vols kick the crap out of your teams.

Put yourself in this kids shoes and see how you'd feel if all these immature people were bashing on you like you're doing to him.

Real life LOSERS act this way towards kids that are doing the best they can and are working their butts off to learn, get experience and to do alot better just for your entertainment pleasure.

I will NEVER bash any kid on the Tennessee roster that took on the tough challenge of doing his best to try and help rebuild our historic traditions of Winning football.

Remember folks, they could have gone to several othger schools and taken their hard work and skills and come back in a couple of years and been kicking our butts.

I'm thankful to every kid that decides to wear Tennessee Orange and gives his best efforts for all of us and all of you should be greatful too.

I love my Vols and if you don't too then get the hell off our board with your horsecrap.
