Josh Smith does not

I would take him all day long over the other 5 star average receivers on our team. He could be a clutch receiver in the NFL.
Was a hell of a play, But all of the receivers played good yesterday. they made JD look good. If thy played like that in all of that in all of the games, were 5-1 or 6-0. and talking about how great CBJ is, and not how he cant coach.

Now if we can shore up our Defense.

J. Smith and Wolf need more passes in the middle. Eliminate alot of those sideline passes and go the middle more from my observations

Agreed. Butch and Co, up until yesterday, have taken 20 yards of the field away and given defenses another defender, in the sideline. The field is 54 yards wide or so, use all of it.

And Josh Smith is still a sophomore, right? He was given a medical redshirt for last year? If so, he should really be something come 2017.

receive enough credit. The kid is a play maker. He runs great routes, has great hands, and is a lot faster than people think. He is clutch. That catch he made on 4th down and the run to the end zone was exceptional. Without it, TN loses the game. He always seems to make a play. He is TN's best receiver in my opinion.:rock:

His catch and TD turned the game around and got the passing game going for the Vols. It was really impressive too as Dobbs threw thee ball high and behind him. He found it and pulled it in and took off down the field. I was really impressed.

Doobs needs a go to guy and Smith is realible enough to be it. I hope to see more plays like that between the 2 of them!!

U are 100% right.... went back and watched the catch it is a thing of beauty. It is slightly behind him and high Smith goes up reaches behind his head and the velocity of the ball spins his body 360 degrees and he hits the ground in full stride . Just watched it in slo mo almost looks like it was choreographed.

Yes he did. That is the gripe with him bc he has that potential and what we expect. He needs to show case that performance every game

Leading receiver, don't think he had any drops, was much more aggressive running with the ball after the catch. Looked like a different player yesterday IMO.

I just watched it again, and it appears that Dobbs was throwing to Malone who was about 7 yards behind Smith. Smith went up and snagged it out of the air! Either way it was an incredible play by Smith.

Great hands on the TD catch! Ball was slightly behind him came through some traffic and he snached it out of the air kept his balance and out ran Dawg secondary to the end zone. Very athletic pay!

Have watched the replay several times and I'm not convinced the pass was even intended for Josh Smith. I think Dobbs may have actually been throwing to Malone who was about 6-7 yards behind Smith when the catch was made.

Edit * sorry Gunner didn't see your previous post but pretty sure you are right.

I remember so many blasting him saying he shouldn't be on the field the last couple years. He turned the corner and has been consistent. So resilient

I was one of them....that guy has made great strides and probably has the best hands on the team..... He's good on his feet as well. I've seen him make a catch and turn to run without missing a beat. He's tip top

Did it seem to you like Dobbs may have been throwing that ball to Josh Malone? I watched it several times in slow-mo too and it looked to have the height to be going beyond Smith. If so that ball was way off the mark and smith saved Dobbs arse. Not demeaning Dobbs play but up until that point it seemed he didn't have too much going in the passing game. JMO. Go Vols!

Yep. The young man is an asset to this team. If you go back and watch the film, you can see that Dobbs clearly threw the ball behind him. He made the play work, even though the pass wasn't that great.

Great teamwork.

Didn't realize Josh is 6'1" while S. Smith is 5'9" both weigh in at 200. Still reminds me of him the way he catches the ball and blocks.

From what I remember Josh put on more weight while he was injured

He made the play of the game with that 4th down catch and TD yesterday, completely bailed Dobbs out on that play. I agree, I'd like to see him more involved.

He didn't bail Dobbs out he added a TD to help Dobbs from being a single handed, one man gang on offense.

He definitely needs to get more touches. Which game was it last year, when he hurdled that CB that was moving in for a tackle? Then late in that game is when he got hurt and we didn't see much out of him the rest of the season. It's players like Josh, that makes up most of college FB. In my opinion I think he was a little under rated coming out of CAK.

Josh Smith said he was the primary receiver (first read), and Dobbs indicated the pass was for Smith. When Dobbs was asked what his thoughts were when he threw the pass, he said something like "Josh Smith, make a play".
