That may very well be part of the problem. During the recruiting process, ALOT of things are promised. Of course once the LOI's are in, all bets are off. Kids don't always appreciate the cutthroat ideas once on campus and are the next one on the chopping block.
"If I commit, I'm committed".
Tell that to Marques Ford. He THOUGHT he was committed.
If it's ok for the coaches to be ruthless, don't bash a kid for looking out for himself.
Jmo
As opposed to working harder and actually earning the playing time.
As much as I enjoyed watching Josh Smith's success this year, he needs a slice of humble pie. Start dropping those wide open passes again, he will find himself buried in the depth chart. I just don't like his tweet, because VN had pitch forks and torches every time he dropped a TD. Fire away!!!
I think the point is that Josh has endured the slings and arrows and has kept grinding.
You can't assume it always boils down to work ethic. Sometimes it just comes down to not being good enough to compete at this level. No matter how hard a kid works, if they're simply being recruited over with a more talented player, 9 times out of 10 the more talented player is going to start. I can't blame a kid for wanting to go somewhere else to get more playing time.
I believe this is the first time I've seen this posted.
A player can work his butt off, only to realize that some people are going to have a natural edge, whether physique, vision, that intuitive knowledge of what's about to happen, or whatever.
Can some stick it out and win time anyway? Sure. And they wind up on 30 for 30 or something. Most will wind up always being in the shadow. If they want to try somewhere else, where can be the big dog.
smh at how how all of us laptop warriors slam them on laziness, being thin-skinned, entitled, and all the rest.

Are players that are supposedly planning on leaving really quitters or do they just want to play so bad that transferring is probably the only way to go?
I see your point.
So, does the fault lie in the evaluation process?
I think if Vic stays he will have a chance to contribute after Pig leaves. If Vic doesn't want to work for it then we do not want him. Players like Hendrix and Helm had a chance to play but were just scared the other players were just better them and left. I'm sure Vic is worried his 4 years will pass him by without playing.
