UT position previews: Offensive line GoVolsXtra

Josh feels that the team will be able to run the ball alot better this year.

I am so pumped about an improved offensive line. Against WKU no one will take the changes seriously. Against UCLA people will notice and comment. When we run for 125-175 yards against UF, it will be a very big deal and will serve us very well in that game.

I think he's probably right to an extent, but let's be honest . . . Until we show a slight ability to throw the ball, it's not going to matter if we've got 5 All Americans on the o-line. The math just doesn't work when you're constantly trying to block 8 or 9 guys.

As opposed to throwing the ball every down for the past two years? I think the new offense will make the passing game more efficient.

We may be a lot better not just b/c of the o-line but all the weapons at RB! We are not really going to improve that much unless we can throw the ball. UNLESS we just have freakishly good RB's and blockers!!

Said a mouthful there....on the other hand a powerful effort at the run will cause more single coverage....with some improvement at QB...we might move the chains some.

I hope you are right. But I'm bracing for some ugly football this Fall.

Unless you guys show that you have some type of passing threat most of the DC's will stack the box. If you are facing a decent secondary where the threat of the passing game is taken away then will also inhibit the rushing attack.

I don't care how good the RB is, unless you have a decent OL then nothing will happen. See UGA vs UF last year. Even though they had a decent passing attack UF shut down the rushing attack because the OL didn't do a good job blocking for the RB's.

It won't be as bad as last year and that's about all I care about. Also, we're going to roll UCLA. They won't know how to act when they come into Neyland.

I've said it a thousand times and because right guard or left tackle aren't sexy positions no one thinks the o line matters. The O-line will decide this season...especially in week 3 I hope o'neill is tougher this season, he's usually more mouth than effort. With good run blocking brown will have open lanes, I'm also predicting David Oku to be a chain mover b4 the game 4 line. Hardesty will start out good but he'll be seated early, he may be a factor late in the season when he realizes theres a rb battle. I see Crompton staring out tough showing maturity then he gets hit, after that his character will decide the season. Gerald Jones can be a factor if Crompton gets past that 1st big hit, and if he realises he's just a football player.

IF they manage to run for 175+ against Florida, we'll be in the game at least.

Remember, a touchdown is worth 6 points no matter who scores it... and all games start tied.

Funny. Miss Cleo told me the same thing on the phone.

Hold on there slick, Florida returns two deep defense that held OU to 14 points.

Did you watch us play them last year? Their offense will be worse without Harvin. Our offense will be markedly better. Being able to run on Florida will also improve our defenses ability to perform on the field.

Eric Berry has a pick 6 and TN wins and Berry will win the Heisman.

UF beat Bama without Harvin and killed FSU without him.

I'm not sure how the UT offense will be much better considering they are basically returning the same players and are in a new system. New systems take a few months / years to perfect.

UF is returning their whole defense 2 deep. The same 2 deep defense that held the most prolific offense in NCAA history (according to the stats) to 14 points.
