Josh McDaniels rumor

This is a $4 million a year pay check for whoever gets the job. Lots of people want this job.
Whoever takes this job will want at least $7 million for at least 6 years with a buyout that will be enough to buy an island in the South Pacific.

Not my first pick and there are other better options, but offensive background at the highest level. Mostly because he has NFL head coaching experience, young, and has been successful NFL coordinator. Recruits and players would listen. Scheme would bring pro concepts and he has shown creativity with how he uses Cam Newton and even how he used C Patterson at RB. Just because someone wasn’t a roaring success as an NFL head coach doesn’t mean you’re not a great coach. Lots of examples of failed NFL head coaches who killed it in college.

The Patriot way (assistants and executives) have been disasters once they leave New England, with possible exception to Brian Flores. They are the Alabama of the NFL.

Do not want.

I really don’t know where I sit with him. I think there are college coaches with better connections in the assistant ranks out there. I do believe we are going to throw 6mm to 8mm and swing for the fences before we come back down in price to some of the other options. Although I keep think the decision is already made and we are waiting until next week to make a splash and not have it buried in the weekend with the NFL playoffs

Show where he has had success without Tom Brady.

There was rumor of his interest in our previous search if I remember correctly. Obviously nothing came of it. Doubtful this time too.

From what I've heard, the UT coaching job interests Coach McDaniels...he would be willing to listen and make the move from the NFL to college if Danny White makes the call. This would definitely be interesting to think about!
OK what if Tennessee hires him. How long will he be here before he goes back to the NFL.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again.... he’s staying in the NFL.

I don't want anyone who is from the NFL if they've never been a college coach before. While an NFL coach is most likely great at X's and O's, we have now seen that if they don't know how to build a roster (aka Evaluating, recruiting, and managing personalities), then they will fail miserably.

College football is a much tougher job than the NFL, IMO. In the NFL, your team comes to you. In College Football, you have no team unless you make one.

That being said, I dont' think McDaniels touches this job. And I'm okay with that.

I would put this guy way at the bottom of the list. I'm a long time Denver area guy and seeing what he did to the Broncos was painful. Started out great, even beat his old boss early on but things went downhill fast. It seemed clear he was way over his head. He had a good reputation with quarterbacks but even he couldn't teach Tebow how to throw a football. Not sure why we ever drafted him, those Tebow days were pure torture for me. Bottom line, not a great head coach, it was super-obvious he was overwhelmed early on. Not sure more experience as a coordinator has taught him anything about being able to handle being a head coach.

Personally, I think he would be an outstanding hire! He’s always been an under the radar guy who I thought would be worth a shot. I liked him for UF when Mac was hired and also liked him when Mullen was hired.

Only drawback would be, with any sort of success at UT (or any college job), he would be an annual candidate to bolt to the NFL. The NFL boys would throw major bucks his way.

But nobody knows offense better than Josh McDaniels. And nobody has been more up close and personal to the Belichick dynasty more than Josh McDaniels.

I would call it the Brady dynasty. Belichick has a career losing record without Brady running his offense. He was a horrible HC in Denver and the offense was horrid.

Those sound like serious rifle rounds.

When was the last time a coach of this stature in the NFL took a job at a school with our resources? I can't think of one.

If our new AD really wants to make a statement by going into NFL how about bring in Gruden. Even if that miracle somehow happened who knows how it would eventually work out - but Volnation would at least finally scratch that itch.

Lol. Bill Belicheck and Tom Brady.

In 2010 the Rams offense ranked 26thbin the NFL. In 2011 when JM took over, they ranked 31st.

In 2008 the Broncos offense ranked #2. JM took over in 2009 and they ranked 15th.
In 2010 Denver ranked 13th.

In 2020 NE offense ranked 27th.

Pleas tell us more about how good he is without one of the greatest QBs to ever play.
This!
