Josh Malone Exploring Entering Draft

He should definitely do the official "draft grade" report just to see. To me, the thing about Josh is that he has improved what seems like an incremental way each season here. It appears that another "improved" year could actually help him solidify himself as an elite receiver nationally. Then again, maybe he's maxxed his potential after this year's "incremental" improvement and needs to strike while the iron's hot.

That's what I figured he will be doing. It doesn't hurt and plus if he gets a good grade, why not have that option to go make millions.

So would that mean we might need one more WR in this class?

Malone is definitely exploring, and I think there’s a better chance of him leaving than most seem to be thinking right now.

Malone is a great talent and will do well at the next level.

God you're wrong about everything. Meachem left Tennessee after his redshirt junior season. He was never a redshirt senior.

I know.

Maybe you didn't grasp the context of what I was responding to.

I was responding to the guy who said Meachem left before his senior year. I said no it was before his redshirt senior year. And that there is a big difference between leaving before your true senior year when he hasn't been on campus for 4 years than leaving before your redshirt senior year since you would have already spent 4 years on campus.

I personally think there is a big difference between leaving early for the draft as a true junior vs a redshirt junior. I consider redshirt juniors the same as true seniors since they have spent 4 years on campus and most likely have a degree as well.

Can't blame him. 5-star. Finally started playing like one. You have to wonder how confident he is in this staff and breaking in a new QB.

If he goes this will make things very hard on whoever is signal caller next year.

If I'm coach, I would have a simple rule for my kids. Did you make first or second team All-American. You didn't? Then why are you even considering it?

Personally think it's a mistake for Malone to jump.

This is a solid WR class coming out and multiple guys like Ross, Davis, Smith-Schuster, Samuel, and Ford are all likely to get drafted 1st and 2nd rd.

He would have to blow them away at the combine to jump into the 2nd IMO.

I love the rubes who fail to understand unlike MLB and the NBA, unless you're a coveted first rounder perhaps an exceptional 2nd rounder, there is no guaranteed money.

CHART: NFL rookie contracts - Business Insider

"Last year's top pick, Jameis Winston, signed a contract worth $25.4 million, while the 17th pick in the draft received a deal worth just $9.8 million. In addition, only players among the top 19 picks received contracts that were fully guaranteed. Running back Todd Gurley, who was coming off a major knee injury, was the lone exception in that group.

Things really drop in the second round, where the average contract was worth about $4.8 million over four years ($1.2 million per year), according to Spotrac.com, but with only half of that guaranteed. The value of third-round contracts drops to $3.1 million, but takes an even bigger hit in guaranteed value, with the average contract worth just $682,000 in guaranteed money."

What is it about a 3rd rounder's $1.2 million contract being only 50% guaranteed money is it some of you have difficulty understanding? $600k over ten years is $60k a year which I daresay some of you make and.or exceed. Stretch it over 20 years when a player would be in his forties, that's $30k per year. You dont think some of these cheap skate owners purchase annuities for these guys and their guaranteed money?? Get real people.

Can't blame him... may not have anyone that can throw it to him next year. Dormady will be running for his life more than likely. I still hope he stays because we will need him!

I dont know if people are aware of how the contracts worj bit going from 0 to 682,000 is still a big difference. Most of those projected 4-6 picks hope to cash in on the second contract and going earlier puts them a year closer to that.

Malone won't be a top 10 draft pick even if he stays.

Are you suggesting those going in the 4-6 rounds and getting a second contract do so at a high rate? I totally get it as some do. But most of these kids and their families need good advice, but $30K/yr which is then taxed, SSN, Medicare taken out for 20 years is not a living wage, they're going to need to go to work and they can do it with or without a degree, especially if Malone for example is not going to be a 1st rounder ever as is being suggested.

The money often for these youngsters ain't all that much actual money.

Josh is a great player but his draft stock isn't as high as he deserves. If he stays another year with qb's that we know are going to throw more than previously, then he will clearly have more opportunity to showcase his ability. If he has a blowiut year next year his stock goes up which translates to millions more in income.

Someone needs to show Malone Justin Hunter's career trajectory. Malone has got skills no doubt, but he needs to fine tune them and another year in college would help. I also believe with the change in QBs, that Tennessee's passing game will be become much more relevant in next years offense.

No, im saying as ive said before that I think Malone need to come vackr. But I understand if he doesnt and league minimum is still not to shabby and that Malone would probably be hoping to perform well and cash in on his second contract, as I dont think he will ever be a 1st round pick.

He's making a mistake if he goes imo. He's been very inconsistent thus far and dealt with a bunch of injuries.
Scouts will like his size but he isn't a burner. I think he'll run somewhere around 4.55 or so. Without having been highly successful in college (like a tredwell type), he's likely to be a late draft pic...if selected at all

not smart if he goes... would probably end up like Justin Hunter or worse, just fade out... definitely needs to come back for senior year and show out.

Malone is sub 4.4.

He absolutely is a burner, but hardly ever gets the chance to break it wide open.

He did against Florida and smoked their Dbs to the endzone.

If he goes now he gets drafted 3 round.

Malone got his 5 star status because how well he did a camps during HS. Iow he tests well.
But he's also a good player when dialed in.
He'll do the same at the combine.
