Josh Malone Exploring Entering Draft

Lol. He would be fortunate to get drafted period. Malone would really benefit from another year. I don't even view him as the best wr on the team.

He's absolutely the best WR on this team. We ALL love JJ and I can't imagine where this team would be without him, but Jennings is probably a better Safety prospect at this point. Unless you were referring to Josh Smith. 😄

He is rated #17 for 2018 WRs...but if he goes this year, I think he will go 3-4th round...he has proven he can play against the best CBs in college and he has the speed and height that NFL teams want

Drops too many balls imo, should come back and improve on that and he could be 1st or 2 round Wr imo.

He does need another year, but not because he drops too many balls. You could the number of passes he dropped this year on one hand.

I think Malone will come back next year and he needs work on the crossing patterns which a lot of elite NFL receivers run with ease. UT has a solid 1-2 combo in Jennings and Malone.

With a new QB and possibly coaching changes, he may have nothing to gain by coming back

Then again, a new QB with a better passing ratio might get him a higher pick in the next draft. I have always felt if you grade out below the third, you might as well finish your degree.

We'll see after the bowl game, but I gotta agree with those who say he needs to come back. Right now on the next level, he would be seen as a project and not expected to contribute for quite some time. He just doesn'thave that "kill everybody" mentality.

I think he could use another year. But, the rumor here in Gallatin from a family member has been that he would go pro after this season. This has been the talk even before the season started.

If Malone goes pro we will be in trouble at WR if Jennings gets hurt

Go ahead and chalk this excuse up from Lyle supporters for next year. They'll need something else to point to besides Lyle when we're 8-4, AT BEST.

If Malone does go pro then I wish nothing but the best for the kid!

If he goes I wish him good luck, but I think another year would greatly benefit him. He isn't going to get drafted that high this year, and there is no guarantee that he would get drafted. I think he would but it could be much later than he thinks. His stock should soar with another year, he has much he could improve on that would almost assure him at least a 2nd round pick next year. JMHO. GBO!!!!!

If ever there was a player who could benefit from a senior year, it would be Malone. He could work on his route running technique.

So would that mean we might need one more WR in this class?

Malone is definitely exploring, and I think there’s a better chance of him leaving than most seem to be thinking right now.

If JG or Dormandy can throw the ball as well as it seems, and we all need them to, he could be a late first or certainly second rounder next year.

But then again, I'm no more qualified than Mike Ferrell.

He should definitely do the official "draft grade" report just to see. To me, the thing about Josh is that he has improved what seems like an incremental way each season here. It appears that another "improved" year could actually help him solidify himself as an elite receiver nationally. Then again, maybe he's maxxed his potential after this year's "incremental" improvement and needs to strike while the iron's hot.

I am sorry but until this year I didn't even know that Josh was on the team. Granted he had a very good year but one year in three might get him drafted late, very late.

I don't blame the kid one bit if he decides to leave. I felt bad for him this year. It literally got to the point where, in one game, Malone had caught 5 passes in the first half. At this point of the season, it had already become a running joke between my dad and me. Dad turns to me and says "Welp, he's done for the night. Butch and Debord won't target him the rest of the game." He was right, of course. There were games where Josh was destroying our opponent's secondary, and for no good reason, our offensive play calling would mysteriously stop going to him. It was disgraceful. If I were Malone, I'd be blowing that popsicle stand. No way I'd want to come back to play for a coach that's systematically going to target me only 5 or 6 times a game.

I wish him all the best but it could be a wrong decision that will lose him many Millions of $$$ on his 1, and maybe only, NFL contract.

Another year with a better passing QB could earn him many more Millions of $$$.

I hope he's not getting bad advice from people.

VFL...GBO!!!

If he declares, it'll really make me wonder about the QB situation. I've heard (from people much more knowledge than me- like Pat Ryan) say things about Dormady and JG that make me wonder. Things like it's "clear in practice why Dobbs starts over Dormady" and that JG is "making some strides with his accuracy issues"

I'm not confident that Dormady is a world beater or that we can get a RS frosh ready to be competitive. I've seen little in the way of QB coaching since Jones has been here.

Hopefully I'm wrong like I usually am

Jmo but if we get an elite QB coach JG could be out of this world good.
