* Today is the culmination of a lot of hard work over the last 10-1/2 months.
* When we got here, there was a lot of uncertainty about what Tennessee football was going to look like in the future. Our staff has helped us steady the ship.
* Love this group. I think we had 10 captains among these 20 guys. We’ll potentially have a few of them take part in bowl practices.
* Not only did we recruit great players, but we believe in them as people. We’re adding to our culture in a really positive way.
* At the beginning, we were just trying to introduce ourselves. As we got into the summer, they got a chance to see the culture had changed. Then, through the fall, they have the ability to see who we are. I think that was a huge part of why we finished as strong as we did.
* The ‘23 and ‘24 classes, we’ve already been on. You’re always recruiting multiple classes at a time. You’re going to continue to recruit those guys.
* I think Tayven Jackson is just scratching the surface of what he can be as a quarterback.
* Dylan Sampson is just super intelligent, a bright, engaging personality. He has some unique traits with his speed.
* I truly believe this. To me, if you’re promising a kid he’s going to be your starter, if I’m a recruit, I’d be on the lookout. What did he promise the guy in front of me? What did he promise the guy behind me?
* Our entire staff, from me on down, has placed great importance on recruiting the state of Tennessee the right way. The players inside the state heard all of the noise when we got here. In some ways, it was harder in-state than out-of-state this year.
* Heupel on #Vols signees Joshua Josephs and James Pearce: Huge for us to add guys who can affect the QB. Long-term, I think they have opportunities to make huge impacts.

I love our new coach! Big things coming our way!

That statement right there says alot about a coaches character. You can only promise the opportunity to earn a starting position.

Thanks for the break down! I'm at work, can't watch the video.

One question was 'is this type of signing day as important as winning a game?'

I would say yes. It kinda feels like the Vols just won a big game in a way.

I would want my son to play for a man like Josh Heupel. I know the world is becoming all about NIL and the portal, but he seems to genuinely place emphasis on loving and developing these kids like they're his own.

And to me, that's way more valuable than figures with a dollar sign.

Yea that sounds nice but it's Bull. $0 for your son to play football or $1 million. You would be dumb, and be doing a disservice to your son, to advise him to not choose life changing money.

I think this is the right approach and especially in the era of the portal. But some kids are going to believe those false promises. When they wake up... they'll remember what the truth sounded like and who told it to them.

Life changing money doesn’t always equate to a positive life change . See all the articles on lotto winners . Kids can and will be ruined by large amounts of money , families will be broken up over such money . I disagree with the “ you’d be doing your son a disservice” by encouraging him to have a chance to be mentored by a man like JH.

You have offered a false dichotomy. It isn't a choice between a million and nothing.

Otherwise....It literally depends on your values and "vision". Money may drive you like that... but to a lot of us it doesn't. I've been extraordinarily blessed in my career. I make very good money now and have a lot of responsibility.

But it wasn't that long ago that I walked away from making a lot more money so my kids wouldn't have to move and change schools. We were able to raise them in a small farming community. The value in raising a kid that a place like that and the experiences are priceless. Conservatively I gave up about $40K per year for those 8 years based on what I made when we eventually moved. What my kids got in return... was a lot more valuable.

And I think you are making assumptions about CJP. Every one of these coaches only care about on thing. And it's not the kids.

That’s literally the opposite of what’s he’s said help them sign such a strong class . Every chance he gets he’s telling the reporters how important culture and fit is to him and this program . Every question asked about individual signees today he answered with some part being about the character and how impressed he was with them as a person not just their fb talent . Did you watch the same video that rest of us did ?
