Josh Heupel loading up for Vol reconstruction

Head Coach Josh during spring practice March 7, 2025, on Haslam Field in Knoxville. (Photos by Andrew Ferguson/ Tennessee Athletics.. "Tennessee efficiency peaked soon after the arrival of Robert Reese Neyland. The officer and a gentleman did more with less than anybody before or since". This Man; Marvin West, knew General Neyland very well. How lucky we are to have a direct connection to the Legendary Robert R. Neyland in the Legendary 90 year old VFL Marvin West! Amazing!

"Heupel added another highly qualified analyst, Alan Williams, just in time for spring practice. Williams is 55. His record includes half a lifetime as an NFL coach, segments as defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings and 18 seasons as defensive backfield coach for various teams.

He spent 10 years with the Indianapolis Colts, including the Super Bowl season when Peyton Manning was quarterback.

Hmmm, do you suppose Manning could have been Williams’ key to Tennessee? Do you suppose Williams is an investment in the future, just in case there is a vacancy?" MAYBE Williams was hired to put some pressure on the defensive staff to kick it up a notch....

He’s helping with the Defensive Backs. I don’t know that pressure needs to be put on Martinez, who’s close to retirement. And since Banks coaches Safeties, no, Heupel isn’t “putting pressure” on Banks to step up, given that they just gave him a raise/extension. He will continue to receive head coach interest for mid major schools, I’m sure.

I think Williams was simply brought in because he makes the staff better.

Along those lines, I really like the analysts Heup has brought in this offseason. I think he learned from last year that he needs some additional quality coaches to move this program forward. Guys like Littrell, Williams, and Bonamego are guys who bring quality assistant coach credentials to analyst roles. They'll bring in a variety of experience and different perspective. Two of them have been highly successful NFL assistants and the other has been a successful head coach in college.
