Josh Heupel appreciation post

Here's my thing: (clearly I will be in the minority) It is becoming increasingly clear that Heupel put up with this family's junk for a long time. I think that's a problem. Saying nobody is bigger than the team and UT trying to act like they cut Nico loose plays well with the fans, but it's clear that isn't what's happened here. This kid and his people have called the shots here, and when stuff went public, UT made the right call to start leaking and look like they had enough. I'm concerned that they were sticking with him in spite of his people continuing to try to leverage him it to more money at the expense of the good of the team.
I agree with you.

Josh is a boss

he's handled so many tough situations and has had the Vols perform at a pretty high level. Extremely high compared to what we've seen post-Phil.

I think CJH also deserves credit for containing the EGO issues with his QB and family in house for so long!

Thank you CJH for leading the way.

We’re not going to do that at Miami,” Cristobal said. “And I say that without any hesitation. If anyone is thinking that — They can be the best player in the world. If they wanna play holdout, they might as well play get out. Don’t want to do that, don’t want Miami to become that. Too many guys have sweat, bled, and have laid on the line on that field to ever become that kind of program.”

Would love to be a fly on the wall and hear the ongoing discussions between Heupel and D White, the staff, etc. as far as portal plans when it opens, targets and also post Nico fallout strategy from a legality standpoint if something comes up there. I trust this staff/admin to be all over this stuff.

I’d rather spend money on coaches vs players.
I’d rather get good players. They’re not going to coach harder making more money and them making more money won’t make our secondary quicker. Im not sure what is accomplished in paying well compensated coaches even more money while getting beaten for the best talent and having your roster poached because you pay coaches but not players. Those coaches are doing just fine.

We currently have GREAT coaches across the board at UT who understand todays game and have navigated the waters with precision and class.

I was thinking about this the other day. Who is our best coach right now across the sports? You have Heup who took a dumpster fire 3-7 team with absolutely no talent and in two years was one Hooker injury away from the playoffs. His eight ranked wins are sixth nationally among FBS head coaches during that span and are the second-most by a UT coach through the first 39 games of a career. Then you have Barnes who took a very non-basketball school and has made us perennial contenders often times ranked #1 in the country and of course, lastly, Tony Vitello who has a National Championship and could easily repeat this year. I love them all. It truly is a great time to be a Vol.

And don’t forget about Kim Caldwell, Sweet 16 in her first season and beat UConn.
