Josh Dobbs - NFL Draft thread (merged)

You have to look at Dobbs and his ability to throw NFL type throws the deeper out and steam passes that are required by NFL quarterbacks he.. simply has not demonstrated that everyone keeps thinking of him as the dual threat... dual threat quarterback's don't exist in the NFL.. really only more mobile who selectively run

Quite honestly Dobbs over his 4 years was a better running back than the one that quit the team.

D4H has been setting us up all along, The 4 has always been a reference to the round he would be drafted. He's just been waiting on us all to figure it out, a genuine soothsayer.

You joke but you just gave him an idea to use and claim he knew it all along. He'll be serious when he says it. He still thinks we bought that stupid excuse for his epic meltdown on Dobbs after our first 3 games.

Personally I think the NFL is missing a great chance to make the game at that level more interesting by avoiding dual threat QBs.

I realize that QB's are typically the franchise player and thus there is the desire to protect them at all costs. But quite frankly the NFL games are not as exciting as the college games.

Dobbs has had major accuracy issues and those go from incomplete passes in college to interceptions in the NFL. Also if if A wr has to slow down to make catches, like Dobbs did a lot, that makes it so much easier for the much better DBs to break it up or pick it. Now Dobbs favorite throws, to a WR standing completely still, would get that player killed by a DB coming with a full head of steam, utterly destroying the poor WR stuck standing there with no chance.

Dobbs needs to go somewhere where he can spend the next 1-2 years doing nothing but working on his accuracy with the WRs and not havng to worry about anything else. Hes evasive, he can take a game over, and he can take over a huddle. He just needs to learn to play from under center, read a much tighter and tougher D on the fly, not lock onto one WR and most importantly he must be able to consistently hit his WRs in stride.

Dobbs was never a top QB prospect and is a fairly big project. With the way this draft has gone and the players available at other postions, and still available, he might not go until 5th or 6th round. Honestly in most drafts, the top QBs in this draft are 2nd-3rd rounders(at best) and Dobbs is a 6-7th and possible udfa.

Your 2nd paragraph... agree 100%

Guys, Dobbs just isn't good. Everyone here other than Dobbs4Heisman realized this fact. Every time my Arizona Cardinals come up to draft, I breathe a deep sigh of relief when they pick someone other than Dobbs.

It's not "he isn't good".

It's, "he's not '1st round pick, franchise saving, sure fire hof career' good".

Day 3 pick at best, and so far, that's how it's playing out.

Dobbs off the field is better than any other QB. On the field, his arm is ok, his accuracy is bad, and his instincts as a passer are not good.

All in all, so far, this draft has played out kinda like many thought it would for the TN players.

Or kaaya or peterman

If the Cardinals take a quarterback, I am hoping it is Kaaya. He seems to be a pure thrower. He has a strong arm and good accuracy. Obviously, he needs more development. However, he has raw talent. Dobbs doesn't have the arm strength or accuracy to cut it in the NFL.

They've tried, and it turns out it's just not viable long term, and there's a good reason for that. The running QB ends up having a pretty short career because they take too much punishment. It works in college because the good dual threat QB is faster than most of the defenses they play. But in the NFL, the defense is as fast if not faster and hit way harder.

The "dual threat" QBs that survived long term did so because they developed into good drop back passers who could run when needed only. Steve McNair is a great example. Guys like RGIII and Kaepernick were supposed to be the next big things and they burned out quickly. Plenty of other examples too.

Actually, kaayas arm isn't all that strong, but he has great touch, and is more accurate.

If you could combine Dobbs and kaaya, I'd show you the best qb in this draft probably... lol

If you think these GMs really care about off the field, take the temperatures of Joe Mixon's and Josh Dobb's draft parties. Pretty much tells you all you need to know.

You can be mobile and run.

That's gravy though. In the NFL you have to be able to play from the pocket fundamentally.

Cam newton is 6' 5", 240 lbs.

If he can't make a living as a qb running the ball.... no one can. It wasn't until he developed in the pocket that the panthers offense took off 2 years ago.

Dobbs is a poor mans version of that, and until he develops as a pocket passer, he'll never make it in the NFL.

Situation will be important. Place like Pittsburgh would be ideal for him to do that.

In fairness mixon had 1st round grades talent wise. Not an apples to apples comparison.
