Josh Dobbs - NFL Draft thread (merged)

Watch the Raiders with Dobbs.

I'm watching the Steelers and Cardinals, both of which would be excellent situations for him (with Steelers being the best).

Patriots wouldn't be bad, either--even with Garoppolo. If anybody could develop Dobbs it would be them, and then he would be on the market for a trade. But I don't see them drafting a QB.

Wth is wrong here?
Every player mentioned is going exactly around where sane people thought they would?
There's only been 3 rounds and the Vols have already put in 3 players. That's actually good but instead of relishing that moment, we have posters griping about devolopment because our 3 star (who hardly played in his senior season) didn't go in as one of the top round picks?

If you are truly disappointed because these players are going exactly where we thought, instead of some imaginary round placed in your head by d4h..??? then you have bigger problems than our football team.

losing count....

I didn't claim to be infallible. Just better than them.

See how good my 2017 draft predictions turn out.

You aren't "better than them". In fact... you are much worse than the average poster here.

Where did you say Dobbs would go again?

The worst thing about you is that you incite unnecessary negativity toward Dobbs. Dobbs is a great guy. Good college QB. But he has problems with his game that apparently the professionals also saw... but you've been blind to.

Someone will likely take a chance on Dobbs. Based purely on talent, I would not be surprised at all to see Malone go before Dobbs. Someone is going to get a steal with Malone in part because Dobbs' passing issues prevented Malone from posting the numbers he was capable of posting.

Unless Dobbs can learn to read D's better and place the ball MUCH better... He will never start in the NFL and may not make a roster when all is said and done.

Some folks are just looking for a reason to complain. Everything, every negative, every positive has to be turned into a slam at Coach Jones. Haven't you learned that yet?

To say that these players had no development is saying they could have walked onto an NFL field as an 18 year old out of high school and played against men - which is not true at all.

Grandfather was a GM.

Nothing more than NFL nepotism.

Damn that's just stupid. You really think a GM and head coach, who's jobs/careers literally hinge on the drafts they put together, on the personnel they choose/accumulate, said last night "hey, I knew CJ's granpappy, let's pick him"?

Look, I was surprised too. I definitely think they should've taken Josh instead. Hell, I thought Cleveland should've pick Josh instead of Kizer even earlier, said so in the moment last night in the NFL Draft thread. But come on kid....nepotism didn't get Beatherd drafted last night....poor judgment (imo) did.

Dobbs has had major accuracy issues and those go from incomplete passes in college to interceptions in the NFL. Also if if A wr has to slow down to make catches, like Dobbs did a lot, that makes it so much easier for the much better DBs to break it up or pick it. Now Dobbs favorite throws, to a WR standing completely still, would get that player killed by a DB coming with a full head of steam, utterly destroying the poor WR stuck standing there with no chance.

Dobbs needs to go somewhere where he can spend the next 1-2 years doing nothing but working on his accuracy with the WRs and not havng to worry about anything else. Hes evasive, he can take a game over, and he can take over a huddle. He just needs to learn to play from under center, read a much tighter and tougher D on the fly, not lock onto one WR and most importantly he must be able to consistently hit his WRs in stride.

Dobbs was never a top QB prospect and is a fairly big project. With the way this draft has gone and the players available at other postions, and still available, he might not go until 5th or 6th round. Honestly in most drafts, the top QBs in this draft are 2nd-3rd rounders(at best) and Dobbs is a 6-7th and possible udfa.

Pretty close but much of what Dobbs lacks passing the ball is innate. You have to be able to visualize and throw the ball to where the play is going to be made. He has never done that consistently or shown the ability to throw a receiver open. It isn't arm strength or even accuracy... it is that something else. Think the opposite of Danny Wuerffel who knew exactly where to place the ball but had a rag arm.

Kizer's issues off the field can more easily be controlled and overcome than Dobbs' issues passing. These teams looked very closely at Dobbs and Kizer... and chose the latter in spite of Dobbs being a billion times the good human being. If they thought the physical talent was even close they would have chosen Dobbs.

I sincerely hope D4H isn't giving anybody life advice!

No lie. This has gone exactly by the script so far.

I'm still right about Dobbs NFL potential. These dumb GMs did the same thing last year with Dak. They'll regret letting Josh fall to day 3. Just like they regret now letting Dak fall to day 3.

You can't BE right about his potential yet. Nothings even happened!

Man you were and are just so wrong. Admit it and enjoy just watching players get drafted and cheer them on like the rest of us. No analysis or excuses necessary.

Especially the Analysis

The Jones development comment was sarcasm. This draft is kinda proving a major problem in that regard.

Dobbs biggest problems are accuracy, reading defenses, and pocket instincts. 2 of those are really hard to correct. The NFL is getting collectively punished for the dual threat hype.

Yeah, no ill intent meant.
I was more focusing on Cam being good but obviously being a medium rated recruit that will still do well despite missing much of his 'show off'
Sr season.
When Dobbs first played, imo, wow, great college qb.
But needed to improve passing consistency to make a 3rd or 4th round NFL grade.

As GAVol basically said, it's almost to script. Nothing to complain about unless someone let d4h delude rational thought.

What does that have to do with being a quarterback and thrown the ball?

Nothing - just that one of his strengths was his ability to make something out of nothing. Obviously the NFL doesn't see that as a plus for a QB.

And this strength plays well in college - different game.
