I always enjoy having Jordan Rodgers as a commentator. He notices things and offers insights. One thing he pointed out last night was how UT was aligned to take away the slant plays and how they mysteriously gave up on the coverage during Q3. Another item was how Tennessee's offensive set up was allowing the defenders to determine which side of the line was going to be attacked. That's not the first time I have heard that.

Maybe Tennessee should hire him as the assistant coach for game time adjustments?

UT was aligned to take away slant routes?? That's the first I've heard about UT being anywhere near the slant routes...

I actually thought he had a very poor night last night. It was really bizarre he couldn’t figure out that JG was injured. I immediately saw him land on his head and wondered if you would be back out there. When he wasn’t back out there and they showed him on the sidelines he didn’t have his helmet. Clearly, that means he was in the concussion protocol. Yeah Rogers just goes on and on and on about the decision. Also, do you think most commentators would comment on the fact that we were running the ball 80% of the time. When both backups came in we just ran over and over again.

nice post. the only thing wrong is the last part. If you have to explain to a Defensive coach how to adjust to the game, he isn’t the right coach. Or the players are just dumb. Or a combination of both.

Essentially one play where the DB was obviously cheating the inside route. It worked. Then they never did it again.

Rodgers is very good. I don't care where he went to school. Another homeroom hire by the SEC Network of a former SEC QB.

He was right, I remember hearing him discuss it and we snuffed out couple of plays then they changed coverage and we were gashed few times. He said why would you change it if its working....common sense does not prevail with this staff however it was a brilliant point

It appears to me this staff is always chasing the last game, if that makes any sense to you. I also think they don't do a very good job of self scouting, this is where the best programs gain a big edge with their off field analysts.

I agree. It appears they have addressed some of the more obvious issues like personal fouls and lining up correctly but a healthy dose of introspection after every game would probably identify more subtle problems.

Maybe they are doing this but the corrections are being rejected by the head coach. I fear the bunker mentality is sitting in. Fulmer might be able to help in this regard.

I was thinking the same thing during the game regarding Rodgers and he is right. It really isn't that hard to figure out. UT - this is working so we should stop doing it. AR - this isn't working so we should change....

He was right about that. It was Theo Jackson playing inside the receiver which is designed to stop the slant from the slot receiver or single wide-out side. It will work for the most part but if you are not a super-gifted athlete and you keep playing inside you are going to be a sitting duck on a go/fly route. Our real young secondary isn't experienced enough to continue to play inside leverage every play so Pruitt is electing to take the safest option.

Jordan is actually a great guy. Doesn’t have a ****** attitude like his brother. Smart as well. Didn’t physically have the tools to be a great QB but mentally, understands the game very well.
