When Pearl is in the game playing SF, he is an offensive and defensive liability. When he is playing the PF position he is only a liability on offense IMO. He can guard most PF's we go up against, and he is (along with Maymon now) our most physical defender and draws more charges than anyone else on our team. I would venture to say he is top 3 in steals as well. When he is going up against an opposing SF, on offense it allows an athletic player to sag off of him and clog up the interior. When he has a PF on him, it pulls a big out from under the rim and creates lanes for penetration and opens things up. He just absolutely cannot play SF at this level. He is a very capable PF IMO. I do not mind him getting 10-15 minutes to harass the oppositions bigs and give a few hard fouls.
I do not think Woolridge is much better on the offensive end, and is more of a liability on the defensive end. Granted, Woolridge has become a much better defender from last season to this season. He appears to be starting to grow into his body and looks less like a 6mo old Great Dane as far as clumsiness is concerned.
I am hoping for a much needed win tonight and look for Tobais to get more looks and for the offense to space the court better with a shortened rotation and less 2 minute substitutions.
Go Vols!!!
