If he's exactly what Pearl wants, why isn't Bruce recruiting more slow, undersized forwards who can't shoot?
'cuz they broke the mold with Dane. No more warrior, selfless, "anything for the good of the team", immeasurable intangibles, leaders coming out this year that I've seen. Ask CBP during the next call in post game show...it's open line. See if he agrees, hell I'm just a poster that sees what Dane means outside the lines..

If we still had Wingate, Dane wouldn't be starting and he would be coming off the bench for less than 10 minutes a game and we wouldn't be discussing it right now.
I don't know about that. I'm certainly far from being the President of the Dane Bradshaw Fan Club, but I'm not sure I'd want to see our halfcourt offense with out his passing involved.

I sincerely doubt that Wingate would provide 4.9 assists a game. Pearl runs a flex, and we need those assists to setup open shots.

Dane would still be getting the minutes, but he would probably be seeing more of them at guard (though not all, we'd still be thin in the paint)

Do they keep a stat on how you screw up on boxing out on freethrows? Dane just about cost us the LSU game by not boxing out 5 times. Screwed up 3 times against Ky. Your right about who else we would put in, because CBP has no one else to put in. It's unfortunate that he is all we got. If we still had Wingate, Dane wouldn't be starting and he would be coming off the bench for less than 10 minutes a game and we wouldn't be discussing it right now.

Wingate was awful soft.

No, they didn't. Go watch Carson Newman or LMU play. There are all kinds of undersized guys like that playing inside at that level. Bruce has publicly said, when praising Dane for playing inside to help the team last year, that he wouldn't have recruited a player like that. He doesn't fit the prototype for what Pearl wants to input into his system.

Heads up smart guy....that was me....and I did'nt say "easy to take".....Please ref priors and only respond to what I say:thumbsup:

Ok, "comfy", and I completely did respond to what you said. CJ's loss has been alleviated by Ramar, not[/I] Howell. I think Pearl would completely agree with that! Besides, Pearl himself said that he was using Howell at the 2 for most of the season, leading up to the UGA game actually. It'd help if you listened to his show instead of bringing up your own points about what he would think. Dipsh**

Print this off....put your phone # on it....send it to the athletic dept and I'm sure CBP will give you a ringydingy to see just how you'd better serve the dept than him. I hope you are kidding about what you "think" should be done instead of what CBP is doing...and Dane would be getting mins in his warrior system no matter who was on the roster....bank on it!!!

I think Wingate would be starting at the 5, probably instead of Dane, but you never know.

Alright law man....you and I both know he was'nt saying that in the vein of "but he's all I got"..... It was a praise...not a diss. Take in in context. He was saying that he was the kind of guy that sometimes gets looked over, but brings immeasurable intangibles every night!

Hey guy....you started this...not me....and I have NEVER discounted Ramars contributions and think he will(and maybe already is) one of the GREAT PG's in SEC history. Now, back to the subject @ hand....Dane is good for this or any team. Stop slapping @ an icon and I'll stop slapping @ U:salute:

Ok you are all right. If we had a team full of all Danes then we would have a bunch of warriors and all heart - but we would never have any points.

This is a pointless excercise. If we had a team full of Duke Crews we'd have no 3 ball. If we had a team full of Loftons, we'd never grab a rebound. If we had a team full of Childresses we'd have no 3 ball (although we'd still shoot alot of them). etc.

Dane has a specific role, and he fills it better than anyone else on the squad. We all benefit from specialty.

I just don't see it. Game in game out. He can't shoot. He can't hit a lay up. He can't box out. He's guarding guys that are 3 to 4 inches taller than he is. Pearl just hasn't recruited enough talent yet. If he had another 6' 6" guy (Prince) to play D and grab rebounds, then Dane would be benched. If Wingate was still here he would start instead of Dane. Anyone that disagrees with that is just not using any common sense what so ever. He may have been soft, but he would take out the other teams center and Duke and Chism would resume the roles that they should be playing. What is CBP suppose to say? Dane is all he has? He has no one on the bench good enough to start in his place? He's got to be political and say Dane's got heart and does the little things that doesn't show up on the stat sheet. Well the stat sheet does say that Dane is usually 0-?. Turns the ball over too frequently. 50% FT shooter. Can't hit a lay up. Guy he is guarding usually has a pretty good night.

He still leads our team in assists. He's averaging 4.9 a game. I'll agree that he isn't an ideal forward, but he sets up many of those plays that Crews and Chism make inside. Plus you can't put a price on senior leadership and Dane is our only Senior (since Wingate is gone).

He turns it over too much? His A/T ratio is the best on the team. Both Jujuan and Ramar have more avg turnovers per game.

My point exactly!!!!!!

And MY point is that just because I disagree with you, doesn't mean that I think I should be coaching the UT basketball team or that CBP is doing something wrong. It's my freaking opinion. Disagree all you want, but don't come in here insulting.

I don't think a random 6'6" guy can contribute in other areas like Dane. He's 5th in assists in the SEC and 4th in steals, 2nd in Assist/Turnover Ratio.

2006-07 SEC Men's Basketball - Leaders

Ohh, but I guess J.P. Prince would do better. He managed 6 min a game in 3 games and shot an amazing 20% this season at Arizona before his transfer to UT. I guess Lute Olsen, who has guided the Wildcats to the most active consecutive NCAA tourney appearances, doesn't know what he is doing and just didn't like J.P. Or something. I bet at 6'6" and a huge 180 lbs. he would box out SOOOO much better than the Dane.

SI.com - College Basketball - J.P. Prince Player Page

His own teammates say he is the heart of the team and hold the team together. I guess they are lying too.

Kinda like the "Slick Shelley is going to get a lot of playing time in 2007" comments you see on this board. Just don't make any sinse. Go back to your EA Sports Games and let us in the real world enjoy our Vols.

Never mind the goodnight thing....Are you serious? Do you think he is playing because Major had no self control? Do you think he is supposed to be a center? Do you not realize that he has sacraficed his well-being for the team? Do you REALLY follow Tn basketball? How old are you? Life ain't a nintendo game and if you can't see Dane and get fired up @ this point in his career and know that the man plays the game special then I should just shut up. Maybe I'm just wayyy to much of a homer...maybe it's me.

I like Dane for the way he plays, but even huge supporters have to admit that he has glaring weaknesses (on both ends of the floor) at any position he plays.

The team is playing better because they've been playing at home. Howell's return certainly didn't help matters in Oxford or Gainesville.

And your star, Ramer Smith, made 10 turnovers in that particular game, most in the second half!:whistling:

A few things:

A) I can barely decipher what you said.

B) I never said what CBP is doing with these guys is stupid. Show me proof, but you can't.

C) You're the kind of fan I hate: anytime someone might voice something different, you automatically berate them and say things like "Send in your resume to the Athletic Department" or "Are you even a Tennessee fan?" Get off it.
