Before his injury he was one of the most down played members of the team. To the point some thought it a positive when the injury took him out of the lineup.

I have to step up and say he has made some big time contributions in this charge the Vols have made. His turnovers are down, his defense has improved by leaps and bounds, and when Lofton was injured and still timid on the ankle, Jordan hit some big time threes to put us back in the game. I think his improvements have been lost in the shadows of Chism's coming out party, and the play of Tabb and the improvement of Ramar. But I think Jordan deserves some credit as well.

Jordan has been playing much much better than I thought that he would this year. He is very capable of coming in and filling in for Ramar when need be. However, he had some huge lapses on defense last night that allowed UK to get back into it.

He made a nice fake right before one of the 3's he hit, I was impressed by that....He's a better ball handler than I though

I have and will continue to support Jordan. Others call him an outright waste of a scholly. I don't think those people know much about basketball and the team concept - plus, CBP wouldn't put a guy on the court if he wasn't going to help the team win. Jordan does exactly what he is on the court to do.

Me too. I took a BEATING on here last year for saying I liked him and felt comfy having him there with the loss of CJ. However, I have seem some VERY gracious eating of crow from this post, Hats' post a couple of weeks ago, ect.,ect. I think it's HUGE to have guys on this board that not only change their opinion, but bring it up themselves unsolicited.

Let's not get carried away. While I was quick to admit I have been extremely harsh on Howell, he is still a total defensive liability and limited balhandler. There are still probably twenty guards I can think of off the top of my head who are better players as reserves than he is. Just because he isn't killing us doesn't mean he's not still hurting us. UK's big guards were able to do what they wanted to him.

If not for the complete breakout year of ramar smith we would be going nuts about the PG position and not the lack of post play in here. We'd also be wishing for a an appearance in the SEC championship game to make the ncaa. We'd have about 11 losses at this point. While Jordan's good for around 2 three's a game, that's no where near the production ramar has given us and obviously the great CJ would have given us.

Exactly, he can't break down Ds and is a defensive liability, but he's a reasonably solid reserve and can shoot, even in big situations. He can also make FTs so he's not a late game liability.

I think of Howell as a shooting specialist and nothing else. He should be used like Northern Arizona uses Steve Sir, but with far less minutes. Howell should actually spell Chris Lofton and not Ramar Smith, IMO.

Howell would be a nice 8-10 minute reserve staying outside the arc and hitting his 3s. He isn't quick enough to be worrisome off the dribble, which really hurts us in both transition and in our mediocre half court game.

He also doesn't have the handle to drive, so lack of quickness + lack of handling = 1 dimensional player.

Ramar Smith should end up better than CJ Watson was, and CJ was dang good at the college level.

what were we when howell started? 5-0 somethin like that...crazy how good of a RESERVE he is...and that helped make Ramar better by letting him watch a little more...Jordan cant handle the ball? how many turnovers has he had while playing the 1 and 2 guard this year?..i mean what about those big 3s that broke the game open against LSU in a game we won by 3....they were contested tough shots that he knocked down and we lose if not for him....he had a good game against GA as well...he hit 3 3s against Vandy....he hit 2 last night durin a 15-5 run that broke it open and we only won by 4....give a guy some respect and credit to go through what he has with his injuries and so forth...i think he is a pretty darn special player comin off the bench to spell lofton or ramar...it doesnt make me nervous when he handles the ball or shoots

When he shoots, he's fine.

When watching him at the point, I know he probably won't turn it over, but he also won't make much happen.

Whatever, one thing he did do was sink some key threes last night.

1, 2, and 3 point losses
All three of which were games that Ramar played brilliantly in. Taking minutes from him in those games and giving them to Howell would have made those 7, 9, and 6 point losses.

Jordan Howell is one of the primary examples of the difference between Pearl and Buzz as coach: players actually IMPROVE under Pearl. It looks like Jordan's turning into the sort of player Buzz had envisioned him being when he recruited him: a three-point sharpshooter off the bench. Due to circumstance, he's also a backup point guard, and he fills that role quite adequately, as long as relatively little is asked of him. Certainly not a world-beater, but I don't think his defense is as bad as everyone else seems to.

I have to give a little love to all the white guys. Childress has improve immensely since last year, Howell has really stepped it up lately, and we all know about Dane. But Bradshaw hasn't been able to throw it in the ocean lately. If he can get his shot back before the Tourney we will make a run.

Back from where? High school? Junior Pro? He hasn't been able to hit a bull in the a$$ with a bass fiddle since he came to Knoxville.

I seem to remember 2 games against a team wearing orange last year and a game against another team wearing orange this year that he iced for us...
