Jones vs Harbaugh

It's funny when people talk about Fulmer not out coaching anybody. He's the CEO, his coordinators call the plays. Last I checked Cutcliffe and Chavis were considered pretty good coaches still but for some reason while at TN they were unable to out coach they're opponents in any faucet because Fulmer was the head coach. I rarely post on the Fulmer garbage because the level of ignorance spouted by some has no rival, Einstein himself would be dumbfounded.

I keep seeing rival fanbases talk about how "Jones" cannot coach. I was listening to the radio this morning and a caller was mentioning how Harbaugh didn't win the first few years at Stanford until he got his recruits in.

In 4 seasons he won 4 games, 5 games, 8 games and 12 games.

I think it is a fair comparison based on how bad the Tennessee roster was when Butch got here. The national sports media has taken notice of the players on the hill but most fanbases have ignored it.

Recruiting matters and good things are on the horizon.

I will say this you don't beat spurrier multiple time in the time frame we have and not be a solid coach. As much as he's a prick the man can flat our coach. Butch needs one more year to really showcase what he can do

Its yet to be seen if he's a Xs&Os coach, but this is the best & hardest I've seen our players play since the 07 season. I think that Butch is going to shut some people up in the next few seasons. The kids have shown that they will play hard and give everything they got for Butch & Tennessee. There hasn't been this much fire & passion from the staff and players in a long time. Big things are getting ready to happen at TENNESSEE with Coach Jones at the helm! Hold on because its going to be one Hell of a ride. GO VOLS!

I would say 2009. Many thought Urban/Tebow would hang a hundo on the Vols. Not to mention the Bama game we had no business being in.

Harbaugh is overrated by some people on this board. He is not one of the two best coaches in college football today. He had 2 good years at Stanford(last two) then stepped into the 49'ers in which the team was already built and ready to contend for a super bowl title. He never won a super bowl and that team is a shell of its former self all under his direction. He probably will do a good job at Michigan in part due to that conference being so weak. If Tenn. played Michigan this year ut would win by over 20 pts.

I don't think folks here are saying that he's one of the "two best coaches in college football today," or even one of the twenty best.

I think they're saying that he has a reputation as a program builder/rebuilder. Mainly because of his work at Stanford, of course, but he did something similar at San Diego U (of FCS, not SDSU of the Mtn W, they're different schools).

So he's a fair point of comparison with Butch, who is in the middle of one of the most dramatic rebuilds of this decade.

And I think Butch can compare favorably after all is said and done ... but there's no comparison to be made until the next year or two play out. Harbaugh's great success at Stanford built over four years. Butch has had two so far. Let's see how their efforts compare after another two. [yes, I think this thread, and the radio call-in mentioned in the OP, are about two years premature].

Then, for fun, two more years after that we can compare Harbaugh-Michigan to both Butch and Harbaugh-Stanford, to see which of the three is most impressive. :)

Singletary had the Niners built into Super Bowl contenders?

Hahahahaha

Further notice isn't going to take very long. This thread reminds me of the ones saying Saban wouldn't be that great at Bama. Wishful thinking FTW

Who the hell said that?

Anywho, guess we'll see. The 2 coaches in college football are Saban and Meyer. That ain't changing anytime soon IMO.

Oh, there were plenty. Everyone wants to sound smart and say, "people think this coach is great, but I don't see what all the fuss is about. I think we're better."

Then, a couple years later, when they're totally, completely, unequivocally wrong, people have forgotten about it anyway. The same will happen with this thread. Harbaugh is easily a better X's and O's coach than Meyer, and he certainly can recruit. They'll be a top 5 team in short order.

The talent was there in San Fran. The problem was that Singletary was an inept coach.

They were talented, but that's true of nearly every bad NFL team. It always comes down to coaching and having a great QB, and Harbaugh went to consecutive NFC Championships without the latter.
