Its ironic that you draw a political comparison. I see college football coaches in front of mics very similar to politicians.
Some have the ability or clout to control the room when the darts fly others get in over their head pretty quick. Saban for example is a straight up a$$ in the press room when pushed but at the end of the day what his team accomplishes covers all that up very quick.
At the end of the day every coach runs into damage control situations (some more often than others).
The more defending and narrative control situations you are put in the better chance your eventually gonna have a poorly timed comment. Im more interested in the circumstances that open that up for questioning.
You're adding to the scenario, don't. The mission for UT this season was to at least win the SEC E. It failed to do that.
Were there circumstances that led to this, yes...but that doesn't detract from the original goal.
I'm not exactly a Butch supporter, but how does Butch having fake spam accounts mean he's paying for followers? I just follow a select few places on twitter and have maybe 50 tweets in five years (mostly dogging Billy Beane) and I get fake followers all the time.
I didn't add to the scenario, I simply made the background clear. We failed to win the SEC E yes, that doesn't mean the season is a failure. I'm not that type of fan. I don't rate success or failure on one criteria when there is so much more that goes into a season. Good for you if you can boil life down to black and white and make it work. I can't.
When that's the goal it is that black & white. Just because the season didn't meet expectations doesn't mean fire the whole staff.
Here's another scenario for you. UT's goal was to win the SEC East, correct? It should be that every year but some years it's is a more realistic goal than others and this was one of those seasons.
In order to win the SEC East you need not have more than 1 (maybe 2) conference losses, correct? Now to play on a Butchism, UT needed to go 1-0 six or seven times in SEC contests, correct? Well, they didn't. They went 4-4 in those games.
Whatever, you change your direction more than my wife. You can be right, I'll be wrong, CBJ will be here next year, I'll get upset when we lose and upset sometimes when we win and at the end of the day you can be pissed off constantly about the coach and I will just have to deal with arguing with kids. Yes, I called you a name because that's what most of the haters on here sound like, you included. There is way more to life than UT football sorry.
At the end of the day had CBJ acted like an ass to the media this year, the Tit IX people would have had him for dinner. How quick we forget all the BS that has gone on this year and last.
This is typical of the lack of reading comprehension on this board and when someone gets proven wrong they resort to the tactics like you just displayed.
I never said Butch wouldn't be here. In fact, in the 1st line I said, "Just because the season didn't meet expectations doesn't mean fire the whole staff."
As far as changing directions, again, how did I do that? I simply expanded on what you said my viewpoint was too simple or black & white. No changing direction here.
I'm not sure what you do for a living, but it doesn't sound like measurable goals are involved or you're on Butch's PR staff.
