Question: If JG helmet comes off Saturday is it really worth burning WM red shirt over?

Jones: WM will be in the game and ready to go

Thought that was interesting

Jones also said that if Guarantano loses his helmet for a play, they would burn Will McBride's redshirt.

"He'll be in the game and ready"

I get if JG gets hurt, but leaving the game for one play? That is beyond stupid to burn a year of eligibility over one play.. Run a damn wildcat play with Kelly or Chandler..

It's Jones we are talking about here. He'd burn the red shirt with 3 timeouts in his pocket, 30 seconds before halftime

They haven’t practiced that. Same as JG under center near the goal line. They could also call a time out but Butch holds onto those until the other team needs a break.

Got four games left. If you wait until after Guarantano gets injured to prepare his backup for live snaps you waited too long.

I guess you're right. One play of 'draw it up in the dirt, backyard ball' ain't on Butch's chart. He'd probably flip out..

Didn't they pass a Red Shirt rule that of you only play a little it doesn't burn the redshirt?

You prepare him in practice, not for one damn play so JG can put his hat on....

Purpose of a redshirt is to preserve eligibility for an unneeded player. That’s not the case anymore for McBride.

Doesn't matter to CBJ if he burns a redshirt or not. He won't be here next year...

That's the thing, and it's pretty telling. If he honestly thought he'd be back next year there's no way he would burn a redshirt at this point unless JG got injured. He knows he's gone and doesn't care about the state of the program he leaves behind.

Ok...you’re not keeping up. You want to go with ONE scholarship player in a read option offense for FOUR GAMES? It’s not about a “hat” popping off! :)

Someone remind me of the rule about how many games someone can play in a season without it affecting their redshirt status for that season.

Thanks in advance.

He’s always tried to honor intended redshirts...dating back to Dobbs. Always until the burning was necessitated. Nothing’s changed in that regard.

All I'm saying is if you had no plans to play him in the game to begin with, why burn a potential redshirt over one play?
