Jones needs some grace from the fanbase.

Do you think its healthy losing to vandy every other year and muschamp every year? If you do, than butch is your guy i guess.

What I'm saying is Butch is getting 1 year to get this right. So if he don't then we are getting a new coach. I'm with the frustration and it well deserved. And Butch knows it to if he going to make it he has no choice but to get it fixed. I hope it plays out for him and he makes it. Balls in his court.

Cannot like this enough. He is paid more in a year than most of the fan base will make in their life. I know a lot of people who are lucky to go to a game every few years and for them to spend $150 for two tickets so they can take their son or daughter is huge for them. For them to see the band, the power T, hear the roars and feel the crowd is amazing for them.

And then to hear this guy making $4M a year making excuses, side stepping questions and talking snake oil when someone like Barnett will call like he sees it...it leaves a bad taste in their mouths.

Yep, im a cop and military reservist. Ill never make four million dollars. I spend about 2500 a year to take my family (4) to one or two games a year. This year I spent 900 alone for my son and I to go to BOB.

I have some other motivation though, since unlike most vols fans, im surrounded by.Alabama fans everyday and I gotta do.whatever I can to keep my kids rooting for the Vols.

Ive been a CBJ supoorter, but he has recently lost me. Its not all wins and losses for me. Im no football genius and ive only coached football for a couple years of peewee football, but I know a poorly coached team when I see one. And when I watch Tennessee, I see a poorly coached team. Mix that with the absolutely awful pr stuff and im convinced we need to move on sooner rather than later.

I appreciate what he has done and I will never do the whole, in done watching, not.supoorting etc thing. But I think we are just delaying the inevitable now.

My point nail it! The fanbase is DE-valuing our program. Charley Strong made a point to say that his players read the negativity that was wrote by the fans. It does have effect on a program. And it does have an effect with those considering coming.

I agree to a point, people feel like the internet gives them a circumstances free zone to air their free speech but there is always a consequence...at the same time Charlie Strong has no one to blame but himself, don't push it on the fans for being bullies, we are the audience and in most cases pay hard earned money to attend games, buy merchandise or support through a variety of means. When you are being paid like the CEO your "company" better produce for your clients or you be out of a job real quick...

He should of had it fixed this year, especially after last year, this guy is just not gonna get it done and its blatantly obvious.. if we can get a proven coach in here now, and all it takes is for UT to say. Hey.. we got a blank check here if anyone wants the job. Then i say cut butch loose, cause its only going to do more damage the longer he's here.

It has become obvious over the last two years that Butch is not the guy to get us to the promised land. We could give him another 8 years and we would not win the SEC. We can bask in all the mediocrity we want, or we can cut bait and begin to really build this program back into a national contender.

That's true he is going to get one more year. Its not likely that he can turn it around hope he can.

Yea...recruiting is a dirty business anyway and every blue chip commitment we have right now is being recruited by our rivals (just we recruit theirs)...social media and internet boards do come into play...as does the booing at games...

We need our fans to not show their true character...it runs off players (and coaches)...

And in all seriousness we are 8-4...let's lighten up a bit, overall I enjoyed our season outside of the SC and Vandy games as I feel like we were the better team why I got outcoached.

Point taken and total agree. The product has underachieved.

The most frustrating part is that it sounds like Butch does not want to be here so if he decides to stay then next year will be another disappointment

To his own detriment...? Make zero sense, if he decides to stay he will do his best I'm sure because it would be like a free agent year...if he really doesn't want to be here and that idea hasn't just been floated out there to makes us all feel better for being so damn hateful to a guy that helped bring the program back to its feet...

I needed my 24 hours to get over the Vandy loss. Actually, it was 12 because the feeling they could actually win was already in my thoughts before the game started saturday night.

Our fanbase is at times bi-polar, manic, and stupid. Noone seems to understand that when you lose most of your starters to injuries, 2nd and 3rd string players wont magically turn to All-Americans. Jalen Hurts would be at the bottom of the pile every other play without a healthy line to block for him at Bama.

At 8-4 with the insurmountable injuries, I'll take it. We beat UF and UGA in the same season. Call it what you will but I'm in the camp where beating both those teams in the same season is a great year for me. YES, i hate losing to Vanderbutt, however, the cadence of the season changed with injuries and the Hurd debacle. Coaches aren't out there making plays folks. The kids have to step up and take responsibility.

I still root for CBJ and I hope he makes offseason changes on the staff. For one, we need a qb coach and replace whoever is the strength and conditioning coach. No way we have the same injuries next year, so chin up boys/girls.

OP, I used to have the same mentality as you about Butch. I wanted to see him succeed here but after witnesssing that Vandy loss on live tv, he's lost all my support. He's not going to cut it here whether you want to admit or not.

Grace is the Lord's to give, and I'm sure he'll give Butch his measure when the time comes.

I on the other hand want him to step down and leave quietly, with my thanks for the rebuild.

Wanting Butch to leave isn't necessarily stupid. Wanting Kiffin to come back is the definition of stupid. And pathetic.

So then why you do you say the people that disagree with him want Kiffin back?

I wrote on here why I want Butch gone and think it's funny people think we owe a guy 4 million a year something.

And in another thread I said volnation should hire an office linebacker the drive around and smack people that think Kiffen and Briles are options.

But you do realize he is coaching the Vols next year regardless of your position? And if he goes 8-4 or 9-3, he'll be coaching them again in 2018...

The bottom line...he's coming back next year whether the "legions of the miserable" want him back or not, so we might as well give him grace.

What do we have to lose?

I mean, come on, it's not rocket science guys! :eek:lol:

Logically evaluating the situation, Butch has my support for another year. I believe that is our best option. But, he's going to have to solidify recruiting, make some staff changes, and agree to changes to his system. Clearly there are serious issues with game time coaching. Though, injuries can't be discounted. Get the new AD soon and start plotting for success.

I see no reason why we can't treat butch with respect because he has been a great recruiter and ambassador for the university. But at the same time we should also be able to say that this season was unacceptable and with some of the inexplicable late game decisions over the past few years you have to wonder whether he's the man for the job.

Great post. I agree.

In no way a butch Homer but I wonder how many wanted Dabo fired at Clemson when they got 70 points hung on them by west Virginia. Dabo wasn't that good when he was hired. Maybe we should step back and see how he responds. It's not going to kill us to wait and see for a little bit. I want to relive 98 as much as anyone but sometimes some patience goes a long way. You have to admit the offensive has been rolling the past few weeks. Butch is in his 50s and it took Saban into his 60s to figure it out. Do you really think he is another Dooley. Slow down.
