"How do you want to be remembered? How do you want to finish this off?"
VolQuest.com - Butchered: Jones talks future after latest blowout loss

Butch is given the option to coach the last two games and he declines!? But you just said how you want to be remembered...it is easy to speak platitudes than to live it.

I'm glad that he's gone and hope the administration can find a winning coach to unify the fan base.

But I would like to hear the stuff that really went on behind the scenes with Butch. Did he really punch that kid in the gut, did he lie to Hurd, did he allow the locker room justice, etc.

Maybe he wasn't that good of a man

I digress...Butch what will you be remembered for?

I will remember him for his crappy cliches, but I will also remember the win against SC in ‘13, snapping the Florida losing streak and 3 bowl wins (especially against Northwestern). It wasn’t all bad, but it definitely was long past time. No need to dwell, he’s finally out and now we can just focus on what’s ahead.

Right. So you get fired today and your employer asks if you want to stick around for another couple weeks your answer would be....

I took his declining to coach the last two games, as an admission from him that he knows that UT has no chance to win either of those games with him as HC; it would only hurt his future employment opportunities to have two more losses on his record.

I take it as a guy knowing he is fired and still trying to win a game for the players, because its the playera that matter.

It's time to move on. These kinds of things happen in a football locker room all of the time. There is always "locker room justice" and it's a GOOD thing.

I'm sure Butch is an ego maniac, but what head football coach isn't? Show me one? It would definitely be the exception and not the rule.

I think he gave it all he had and there were some good moments like South Carolina 2013, Florida 2016, Georgia 2015 & 2016. In the end though there were nowhere near enough wins, especially against the teams Tennessee was favored to win against and no upsets other than South Carolina 2013 that I can remember anyway. I think South Carolina 2016 kind of began the downward spiral punctuated with Vanderbilt knocking them out of a Sugar Bowl trip. He did leave winning some games of significance (unlike Dooley) and is leaving the program in better shape than he found it (again, unlike Dooley).

I honestly believed "he did his damndest" as Harry Truman was fond of quoting. If some of you people want to hate him for failing, go ahead, its a free country.

They don't interact with others that challenge their beliefs. They just go with their tourches to their big circle jerk of hate.

From another poster: This article posted in the Orlando Sentinel.

Tennessee commit Tanner Ingle says Butch Jones told him to 'find a place to go, quickly' - Orlando Sentinel

Recruit Tanner Ingle said the following...

“I spoke with Coach Jones about 30 minutes ago,” the Orlando Dr. Phillips defensive back said about 12:30 Sunday afternoon. “He said he didn’t really expect that to happen, but it did so he told me to find a place to go, quickly … and that if he gets anything he will contact me.”

smh

I hope Tanner is getting good advice from someone. Not sure he should hitch his wagon to Jones given his body of work in how players have progressed within his system.

Right. So you get fired today and your employer asks if you want to stick around for another couple weeks your answer would be....

My experience is that when a senior manager/executive is fired, they don't even let him come in to collect his stuff - they have staff members box it up and send it to him. Once you tell him he's gone, he is no longer allowed on the property and not allowed to contact employees....
