Interesting.

If Derek Dooley arrived Jan 15, I never realized he got here on the anniversary of the Great Molasses Flood, 1919: "A large molasses tank in Boston, Massachusetts, bursts and a wave of molasses rushes through the streets (and things really got in a sticky quagmire)."

That actually makes a lot of sense. Seems like he recruited/played a few guys that seemed to run in molasses (too soon?)

“There's little things that drive me,” Jones told the crowd. “I probably shouldn't tell you this — I haven't told this story — but there's two things every day that drive us as a coaching staff. One was building our first recruiting class, when we had 31 days to assemble a recruiting class, and we hit the ground running and we were close to getting a difference-maker. And we all sat in that room as a young man made his decision between two hats, and he chose another hat.
“And I really believe, if we would've had one or two more weeks, we would've been able to break those barriers down. And I said, ‘Remember this feeling, because we will have top-five recruiting classes after this. This will never happen again.”

Damn I love our coach.

No HC in college football works harder than CBJ. His obsession to make us the elite program in the nation gives me confidence that we will be hoisting a NC trophy very soon.

On another thread about Gruden, an article discussed in depth the obsession that he has with Football. Sounds like CBJ is cut from the same clothe. Time to enjoy the journey.

Jump higher Vols.

Either Vonn Bell or Carl Lawson is my guess as to the prospect.

Lawson is from Columbus Ga. which is just down the street from the Auburn campus. His mother and girlfriend were hounding him every day to stay close to home.
I knew that he would choose "The Barn"

Meanwhile, Vonn Bell may have been afraid of competition at his position so he settled for Michigan or Michigan State.

Just because a recruit chooses a different program doesn't mean it is due to our reputation.

what we all don't realize is being irrelevant for 6-7 yrs to a 17 yr old is basically the same as being irrelevant his entire football life....he probably didn't even know the teams until he was 9 or 10....

Dooley, if he was actually working FOR Nick Saban and Alabama to destroy Tennessee football, couldn't have done a better job with his start! Fortunately, the fans made Hart fire his worthless ass!

One of the funniest posts ever on VN...but sadly true. Well played.

If you are going to post, at least get your stuff straight. Vonn Bell played for Ohio State.

Go Butch! I'm all onboard! But talking bout changin perception, what about this 'Can't beat Florida' thing? Seems like that has to be pretty high on the list. And Bamas streak while you're at it. Want to open up thoses doors of perception, CBJ? Beat Florida and Bama this season. Pulling for you all the way. GBO!

Michigan or Michigan State? Bell "settled" for Ohio State the last 3 years.

Let's see that big ole' Doolittle logjam at Safety underclassmen ...

Max Arnold
Tino Thomas
Brian Randolph
Geraldo Orta
Byron Moore
Ladarrell McNeil
Brent Brewer

... is that a Whos Who of top rated Safety prospects?

Prentiss Waggner, Rod Wilks, Marsalus Teague were all seniors to leave soon & 40 times like Offensive Guards.

The only elite DB talent Dooley had on the roster at the time was the laptop wonder himself, Deion Bonner, and he was suited more as a CB, not a S.

Looking over that list of Safety prospects tells me that Von Bell did anything besides get scared away by competition. I'll trust Butch on this one.

winning changes perception. Hell people view OM as an elite program, and they have only been winning consistently the past 4 years. People have short attention spans.
I haven't seen or talked to any of those people that think Ole Miss is an elite program. Where they at?

He acts like he takes it personally when players aren't interested in Tennessee. There are always going to be kids who aren't interested in certain schools and it doesn't necessarily reflect badly on those football programs.

I agree; Tennessee has a hard working blue collar Coach. Further, he's infusing his work ethic into his team. Brick by brick he's rebuilt the Team, (players and staff). If his Strategies evolve as Team does, sky’s the limit! CBJ is doing a solid job by occupational standards; he’s a good coach and may be in the running to be a great one. This is the SEC though, look what happened to Mark Richt. IMHO, the next three years will be telling, but stock wise, I’m buying and holding.

"Butch Jones said the first thing he had to do after arriving at Tennessee on Dec. 7, 2012 was obvious. “Change the perception,”

And in this case, perception WAS reality. We sucked at just about everything we did.

Thanks Butch for the reality check!

I'm so happy with CBJ. Now, this year, I hope he can change the perception of him not being a great game manager. I hope he never takes his foot off of the gas again. I hoped he's learned from last season. I hope every game is like the Outback Bowl. Once their knocked down. Rip their throat out......

Ohio State had recruited better than us and had tougher competition for positions. I would have loved to have had Bell but he didn't "settle" when he went to OSU.
