And that is part of my issue with it. Its not a "life lesson". Its wanting more depth at RB. IMO it's just that simple. If Paulk played any other position and was dismissed, this would not even be a consideration. I agree that had Scott not walked or Bussey accepted the BS, Paulk would have not been in the discussion.
That's where I am with it. Looks kind of strange to see Butch sit there in the NSD presser speaking about how character is #1 for them when evaluating these kids. I guess once the LOI is signed, all bets are off. Punching a woman in the mouth IMO does not speak to "quality character" so much.
I agree, but I will say that all coaches (in elite positions) recruit from the same pool of talent. Urban Meyer used to tell Florida fans he would only recruit the top 1% of the top 1%. No coach in the Power 5 conferences care about character as much as they care about winning.
Butch is a master salesman like Meyer. He just tells people what they want to hear and anyone who does not understand that likely knows nothing about politics and elite collegiate athletics.
Damn you have an incredibly low opinion of the man that Jones is. Lies to recruits, fine with players physically abusing women if it affects his depth chart....jeez Leb.

Sounds like he needs one more RB on the roster.
I doubt Paulk would have stayed around had he not been told that second chances can be earned.
Jones appears to be kinda ok in recruiting (sarcasm) and could have picked up/kept a RB if he wanted.
It's amazing how cynical this place is at times. I just do not buy your theory that Jones isn't capable of replacing Paulk if that is what he had chosen to do.
I see what you are saying but doesn't taking on a player that assaulted someone somewhat take away from Butch's greatness?
Everything in the above post is wrong on so many levels. Most men go through their entire lives without ever feeling the need to hit a woman.So.. What if she was trying to rake his face off with her fingernails? Or maybe she was punching him in the face? We do not, and likely will not, know the entire set of circumstances. You have a right to defend yourself, woman or not. Maybe that's what happened... Maybe she was going off on his face and he punched her back. You aren't qualified to pass judgement because you dont know. Violence against the opposite sex goes both ways regardless of anyone's ideas of chivalry. I don't want our players punching anyone - male or female - for no reason, but there are reasons that warrant defending yourself. And just maybe that's what he was doing.
Well I'm not on any 'greatness' train but from someone who has worked with the Big Brothers program for years.
.....
If he is willing to take on the job of changing someone instead of just replacing them, I will not condemn.
LOL.
Of all the kids he could choose to "change" or develop choosing the one who punched a woman in the face seems like an odd choice to me. Kids are leaving the program at an alarming rate and instead of developing the ones doing it right, let's see what we can do with the dude busting up the ladies. Nice.
LOL

For all of you that say he doesn't deserve to be back, then I say well hello Mr. Perfect. Everyone makes mistakes but it is those that admit those mistakes and are willing to do what it takes to atone for those mistakes that deserve a second chance. It shows character. We don't know what happened and in the heat of the moment and everyone can make a mistake. Oh, except some of you apparently. This sensitivity crap is getting old. No man should hit a women but it doesn't mean they should be thrown out with the trash like some of you suggest. Isn't easy to be perfect behind your keyboards? The losers are the ones on here suggesting he doesn't deserve a second chance. And talking tough about him behind your keyboards is as chickenshiit as they come. Here is to him doing everything asked of him and I hope he proves some of you losers wrong.
LOL.

I guess you've never dated a crazy chick then have you? I've had one 2 inches from my face shoving me, preventing me from leaving the room and the altercation. Some women use the "you can't hit a girl" card as a pass to get in your face like a man. The post you replied to nailed one particular point - we don't know the circumstances and perhaps Jones does. Either way I really don't care. 99% chance Paulk would've never been a back that saw significant PT with Hurd and Kamara here now.
"What if she was attacking him"?
"What if she was raking his eyes with her nails"?
"What if he was just fighting her off"?
If that were the case, I don't think Elliot Berry would have been pulling Paulk off the young lady.
Common sense folks. Use a little. Jmo
Not strange at all.
If the kid has never been 'Taught better than that' is nowhere near as important as whether or not they are teachable. That's something only someone involved with each kid knows.
However, I digress. My experience in this area is not equal to your ability to make smartazz comments on the interweb and add LOL's as a valid point.
