Jones at crossroads with 25 players gone

Twenty-five years ago players didn't really leave or transfer to other schools. You committed to a school for good or bad and honored that commitment. This is just a sign of this generation and the entitlement and me first, me now thought process. It is happening at every school. Better to leave if not happy, but a lot of times just running to the same problems.

Players think they are better than they really are or more likely someone back home is telling them the grass is greener somewhere else. Occasionally, a player can get in the coaches doghouse and not play as much as they should be. However, most of the time the player is just not as good as someone ahead of them and that is the reason for lack of playing time. These coaches all want to win and putting the best players in the best place to be successful is their main agenda.

In today's culture, it is easier to blame the coach, the referee, the fans, the teacher, the hot dog vendor...whomever, just not themselves. Or just work hard and pay your dues and earn it.

GO VOLS!

Oh, there was a few transfers back then, but they were exceptions rather than the rule. But a greater percentage of players played football to get an education, rather than hang out until they have a good draft grade.

But due to the change in culture, I don't think the formation of a football developmental league is too far off. And if they have a sound financial plan, many of the programs in the FCS level down will be unable to sustain a roster.

Graduate Transfers,, BULL SH--!! For most, it's just a way to play for one more year. Don't think it's fair for underclass players that are working hard within the 4 or 5(if redshirt or injured) years to have to sit for a quick fix player. These guys, if good, are really grown men, and should be pro's or move on to the job market. If they want to further their education, then good for them. Just do it in the classroom, not on the football field.

I want to issue a rebuttal but I can't. I have been reading your post over and over again with this look on my face.

Where were you when we were 5-0? Seems you only come around with these quips during when things are bad.

He's just a miserable human being in general. He thinks being a smart @ss is funny. The fact he's so far from it is what's funny. I'm really glad he isn't my partner, if he is in fact who he says he is.

I guess Brice forgot about the 21-25 players that Kiffen showed the door when he took over. That was 1 year not the 4 CBJ has been here.

You all realize that if BUtch had kept all of these guys, there would be NO 2017 recruiting class? Having guys leave is what allows you to sign 20-25 each yr. Practically every team losing half of each class. Butch has been here 3+ yrs so he's averaging about 8 leave a yr out of 20-25. (One yr he signed 32, no way he wasn't going to lose about half of them).

i think most people get that. the problem is when a guy like Hurd or Preston Williams decide to leave, that were bell cows to their respective classes. especially Hurd, who was going to be UT's all time leading rusher, and PW, by all counts, could have had a real shot at being "the guy" next year.

but you're right, when he signed that 32 player class, you knew they weren't all going to stick and stay.

if it not for those two big names, esp Hurd, i don't think this story has the legs it currently does. so unfortunately for CBJ and co, the question lingers...

The Hurd thing doesn't make sense but Im not sure there is much CBJ can do there except risk losing the entire team and losing out. As much about Hurd and his attitude as anything....Williams has proven nothing but that he was grossly overrated coming out of HS. Coaches gave him every opportunity at the start of the season and he simply got beat out....by a kid who was underrated coming out of high school.

Nothing that I have seen from Preston Williams thus far convinces me he would have caught the ball at Georgia to win the game......

oh i agree. to say PW was disappointing up to this point would have been accurate, considering how highly regarded he was coming in.

but he's a true sophomore, so i figured he had plenty of time.

that said, considering our penchant for not developing WR's........well.......maybe he had some of the same thoughts Tee Higgins had....

It's work ethic. PWill was highly rated. but never had to work at it because he was gifted enough. That was his downfall. H'ed always been catered to. Now, Jennings is totally opposite. He wasn't a WR and had to learn the craft. He has put in the work and that's what has separated the two players. One wants it, the other wants it given to him.

certainly possible..it's happened before. Jennings is just wired differently than some guys...thankfully.

Jennings is like Bain and Jumper. There's a hunger driving them to be better. You can say all you want about Jumper, but he has improved through out the season. Some have it some don't. And Bain, once he was given the opportunity, he's shined. Same way Jennings did when he was put in last year.
