They may be good hires. I hope we don't get freshman QB, injury bound, and young team excuses but I think those three will be played a free times. That want work with GA. Tech ,vandy or South Carolina.

Let's be honest, you take out the top play makers off of most teams and their offense would suck. That's football. Lucky for us, we had those 3, and we were pretty solid. Like I said earlier. Most TD's in UT history.
People can say what they want about inconsistency, or whatever else. In the end the offensive coordinator is paid to do 1 thing: score TD's. How it happens ultimately is irrelevant. As long as it happens.

He has only taken very talented QBs and maintained them, while the coaches that followed him have taken those same QBs and took them to another level.

I guess thats how he fits in with most of this staff. He can take very talented players and only make them marginally better.

I hope I'm 200% wrong but 2027 might be another disappointment. Hopefully we'll get an AD who doesn't like just getting to Bowl games.

I want Coach Jones to succeed unlike a whole lot of posters, Vol imposters, on this Board. I believe the changes in coaching staff are going to be really good and I support the changes. Folks said we needed better strength and conditioning, CBJ responded. Ditto improvement in the secondary and a QB coach. We also upgraded our recruiting. Whine all you want to, but CBJ did exactly what folks wanted. We are not going to hand out bazillions of dollars to coaches nor attract the Sabans. We are lucky to have CBJ with all the critics in Vol country. Now hire Fulmer and Blackburn and close out strong on NSD. GBO!

They aren't the biggest hires ever made but does anyone disagree that they are upgrades?

Warren over Martinez
Rock over the intern
Canales over Sheridan

I'd say it's an improved staff. We will see on Scott.

Could be because his contract expires at the end of the month. Or maybe Jones is giving him a chance to find another job to avoid having "fired" on his resume. There's a lot of stuff out there that strongly suggests Wells will replace him. It remains to be seen if this will be an upgrade in regards to coaching, but it already seems like an upgrade so far in terms of recruiting.

Interested in what/who Butch uses the 10th assistant spot on, since it's basically a foregone conclusion that it will be approved.

The same Matt Grothe that threw 52 TD to 44 INT in his career? I think if I was going to argue the merits of a QB coach by pointing to a QB he developed, I'd probably look at his stats first. Maybe Grothe's rushing stats are why Canales ended up an RB coach though

Of course, I could also point out that Canales was his QB coach for one year, Grothe's senior year, and Grothe played about 2.5 games that year

Yes, absolutely and remains to be seen......Canales just came from being the running backs coach at Utah State...just not sold.

Interesting (probably meaningless but interesting) tidbit. Brady Hoke's daughter lives in the midstate area. I have a friend that lives in her apartment complex. Said he sees Hoke often.

Maybe a little motivation for his interest at UT, maybe not.

It's a long off-season. Tinker with mixing orange cocktails and punch. Dream up new tailgating foods with orange ingredients. Daydream of Team 121's fulfillment and glory. Rather than dwell on wounds and weaknesses, be a healthier you. Train for the coming season in your own right. Build up your fan stamina.

How likely are we on landing Hoke? I think it makes a lot of sense. He has connections to Butch, not hired yet, and the smoke around our job. I also believe since Stripling and Mahoney have not received extensions they will be replaced. I hope Stripling stays on in some role because I know how much the players like him and his impact on recruiting, but Mahoney cannot leave fast enough.

Iirc, Larry said Stripling would take an administrative job or something like that, and Hoke would be DL coach.
