He has a chance to line up on the opposite side of another speedster(Tye Hill) that wore orange and white in college.

Woooo, just noticed that. I am real happy for him, and the other Vols in the draft.

he has great potential.. once he learns the game a little more, he could eventually be a lockdown corner with his athleticism..

I'm a huge Wade fan and I think he was a bit undervalued by the draft pundits. Solid pick for the rams...he'll do well.

I feel like, after reading some of the posts on this board that he is very undervalued by UT fans. He helped cushion the loss of Jason Allen in '05 and was a good player this past year. Some folks are still holding it against him for failing at WR.

I agree with that. He only played the postition for what 3 years? It's not like he had a lot of talent other than Hefney last year either.

Some people won't even say that he was "good", though. Some people say he was less than "good."

He had all the physical tools to be a first round pick. He was a third round pick. The reason he dropped so far is because of his college performance. He was a solid player. Had he gone to LSU and gotten coached by Saban, I think he could have been one of the top 3 DBs drafted.

I won't dispute that...he's got first round ability, and with LSU's success with DBs, he may have been better off in Baton Rouge.

I think juggling track and football hurt him a little though...it's difficult to do both, and still be able to maximize your potential as a football player. I think he realized that late in his career, and you saw how much he improved once he focused on football.

He played well last year......but it will take until after the Florida game for many Vol fans to appreciate Jon Wade. He was a really good man-cover guy.

Also, I'm pretty sure Wade came to UT as DB. He switched to WR in 2002, because Clausen had absolutely no wide receivers.

He went from 5 passes defended, 2 INTs and 32 tackles in 05 to 13 passes defended, 4 INTs and 52 tackles in 06. I'd say that's quite an improvement. He was 12th in the nation in passes defended per game.

He had some bad games, but I thought he played pretty good for it being his only year to totally focus on football.

Senior totals were 52/4/13. Junior totals were 32/2/7. Of course, he only started 7 games his jr. year. So, he had more tackles and int's his senior year, but played more minutes last year, too. I think getting more playing time helps most players develop.

I don't think he's terrible or anything. Look at Gibril Wilson, Rashad Baker, and Julian Battle. All those guys were as good or better at UT and only Julian was drafted as high. I maintain that had Wade run a Damien Hughes-like 40 he wouldn't have been drafted.

I agree, the reason he went that high is because he is very athletic, and I think he has a lot of potential with the right coaching.

Probably not but a sub 4.4 will definitely boost your stock.

Do you think Figurs would have been drafted at all, let alone in the 2nd round(I think), had it not been for a 4.28 40?

Probably not. Then again, I'm not familiar with the production of wide receivers from average Big 12 schools.
