Jonathan Kongbo was a big loss last season ... tearing up

The minute the injury happened I knew we were in trouble. I was afraid we might lose the Auburn game because of the injury.

He is not a the type to get a lot of sacks, but he pressure and speed was always a disruption for the other team. He played solid and did not want the ESPN highlight hits. Just a solid player, but not enough to be All American or something like that.

OP, I agree, he was an important loss that could have helped us later in the season. I do think he was forgotten and written off a little too quickly. But, he probably doesn't need to much "make up" praise. He got enough of that in recruitment and his 1st year to cover for years to come. I think the over hyping due to recruiting service ranking errors and a physique that would embarrass Tarzan, caused many fans to turn on him harshly after a lackluster 1st and second year. His recruit rankings were based 99% on potential upside. He did nothing at the collegiate level to warrant the hype. Had he came in as a 3* and looked like a normal athlete, he would have been treated more fairly.

Can we just burn the footage of the last two years and move on?

No need for we sucked before he went down but sucked even more after he left threads.

Might wanna hold on another year to get the 3 in 1 footage burning discount. Hope I'm wrong, but not sure we're out of the woods yet.

I understand that mentality, but I also think we'll appreciate the future good times when we remember the rise from how awful it's been.

^^ This +1

If I had to choose a player at the next level to liken him to it would be DeMarcus Lawrence of the Dallas Cowboys. Great athlete with great size and a strong motor, although I’m not sure Kongbo has the mean streak to go with it yet. Also, both had some injury problems/minor off the field stuff and might take a year or two to develop. Probably not a 20+ sack/yr guy (more like a 10-12/yr guy with the potential for an occasional 15+), but does all the little things that don’t show up on the stat sheet. Obviously Lawrence was a much more polished prospect at this point, but a lot of that has to do with Kongbo’s lack of experience in American football. I’d love for Dallas to take a late round flyer on this guy and develop him under the tutelage of Rod Marinelli. Dude is a D-Line guru.

is this a troll thread?

Kongbo is one of those guys that despite his production (or rather lack thereof), NFL teams will give him a chance. He’s loaded with athleticism and he passes the eye test. Here’s hoping he can carve out a professional career.

There is 0% chance of Kongbo being drafted or making an active roster in the NFL.

I thought he was a total bust until we lost him and I watched the rest of the season. He actually was much better than I gave him credit for. I hope he does great things in the future.
He was a bust in that he never lived up to his billing. But I think we saw with the proper coaching and development he was a serviceable player. His work ethic was never in question

He was the only guy (when at DE) giving pursuit downfield from the defensive line. He lacked Barnett's ability to make plays downfield, but he was at least in pursuit. OLB would have made a difference if he had another year left. He may have a chance in one of these new pro football leagues. He is good enough for that easily.

What a lot of folks failed to realize is that he could set the edge on run defense and after he went down we didn't have anyone physical enough to do that job. That role is not something pay attention to until it can't be done.

You know it’s bad when you start to appreciate the play of someone that had no impact on the field whatsoever.

Good grief guys. I’m sure he played hard and did his best and that’s all you can ask of any player....but, not someone who’s contributions will be missed or remembered.

No impact?

Hey buddy...eat $hi+!

He certainly did have an impact but it wasnt enough, and the level of that wasn't duplicated enough throughout the team.
But dont sit here and say OUR player didnt have an impact.

He didn’t have an impact. I said it. The tape don’t lie.

Wish him a speedy recovery and nothing but the best

Why in the heck would a Gator comment in thread like this?

Well, he does pass the eye test....but you do remember what our 'Ol Ball Coach--PF--used to say: "LOOKS like Tarzan but PLAYS like JANE". That's KONGBO!

Umm, that's what trolls do. The ones that are good at it, like him, can come here and make fun of us, which right now and the past decade has been easy to do, by just telling the truth.

He and a few others have some of our "fans" fooled. They'll make fun of Bama or Georgia and get our fans all warm and cozy with them, then say something like 99 did above. And some of our fans eat that chit up. Look, its slow as crap around here right now and he already hot a like. Lol.

Its funny, but sad.

My guess is the only like he would get would be from someone who had neglected to read his screen name. I know I very seldom notice the screen name before I reply to anyone.
