Jonathan Crompton... (merged)

I find it hard to believe that Crompton is the best that UT has over there....Seriously, He is without a doubt the worse QB I have ever seen over there....And I've seen a lot of them...Never thought I would say this but he makes Joey Matthews look like a heisman candidate...I feel bad saying this stuff but it's the truth...This kid is NOT a leader nor is he made out to be one...How in the hell he got a 5 star rating out of high school is amazing and rivals and scout and any of the other rating systems out there should be shamed....A word of caution to our new coaching staff, The last coach to hitch his wagon to the Crompton bandwagon is now unemployed...Although I do not in any way blame the coaching staff for this but it is just beyond belief that a national power like Tennessee doesn't have a better qb on it's roster...That is just unbelievable...For all you Stephen's fans please remember he was not much better last year either..But I am willing to take the chance on him..What makes me sick is this is really not a bad team...The defense is fantastic and the offensive talent is explosive...Next week We are going to get absolutely demolished by florida....And after that, the fire will go out on this team and in the words of Eric Berry, The sore will get more infected....Time to experiment and get the other qb's on the field and see what they can do...Next week is just going to be one of those miserable days We will just have to learn to live with...Crompton, Stephens, Lamaison, none of them will matter in the outcome...Just get through it and see if We can salvage this season.

It looked to me like Kiffin was holding out on the playcalling again (saving too much for Florida) and it came back and bit him in the a**. Not blaming him completely for Craptons poor decisions, but he couldve mixed it up a little better with the playcalling. Im still on the Lane train!!!!

if stephens can play within himself and not force throws into double and triple coverage, then maybe we can salvage some portion of the season... otherwise, SEC speed/athleticism is going to expose crompton every time...

thanks fulmer for completely decimating our program so you can have fun coaching.

You got some things wrong here...

Lesser opponent? Strike one.

In control of the team and in control of the game are two different things.

The fumbled snap I SAW in the first half was a turnover. You give JC too much credit.

JC was 13/26, 96 yards and 3 INT. Thats accurate? Wow.. your bar is low.

Statistically, Prince (freshman) had better stats. 1 TD, NO INTs. Leave your orange colored glasses on... it works for you.

Fail.

This really sucks.....

I had "almost" bought into the Crompton talk. He made some nice throws in the last game. But the truth is the kid isn't a D1 QB. Yea, he has the tools. Nice size, good arm, can make all the throws. The problem is when the real games start. He can not handle it upstairs. He just isn't a playmaker but worse than that he makes so many mistakes he costs you games. And you can't have that at any level much less the SEC.

No the problem is what do you do? Change to Stephens? Well, I think you would have a better chance to win games with him. But I don't think you can throw him in against FL right off the bat. He needs some time to build his confiedence. If we throw him in there. This season will turn out worse than last.

IMO you have to let Crompton play against FL. Because I don't care who we have at QB we aren't going to beat the Gators in the swamp with this bunch. Go take your ass whipping with Crompton and then play Stephens against Ohio. Which would be a much better game to break in a new QB.

But there is no reason for Crompton to play after FL. We have to start to try and build for next year. Because he isn't going to lead this team anywhere. He has proven it time and again.

Agree

I agree. I think we as fans got too high after last week and got a false sense of how good this team is right now. Tennessee has some talent, but they aren't as good as we thought they were.

I have been on the Lane train from day one, and I still am, but I thought his play calling was just as bad as Crompton played.

"Play calling" is a little overrated. You must call plays based on situation and the ability for your personnel to execute.

Good players always make "play calling" look good. Bad players (Crompton) make "play calling" look bad.

If we have a better QB/OL performance, nobody would be questioning Kiffin's play calling.

One more thing... Anybody that thought Tennessee was going 11-1 because of the Western KY game was a FOOL to begin with and doesn't know BLEEP about football! Just my 2 cents!

Our defense kept us in the game and they played amazing. Then Crompton went in on offense and everything just falls apart. But at least we punished UCLAs quarterback:)

Yesterday on the way out of the game, this Fulmerite was just ripping the hell out of Kiffin for telling Tajh Boyd he wasn't his type of QB. He just went on and on about how if we had kept Fulmer we would have won that game yesterday with Boyd. People just need to let it go. Even with the loss yesterday, we are in a much better place now than we were a year ago. It's going to take time, and we'll have to be patient. Even the tone of this board following the loss has been a welcome change, it's just a much more optimistic bunch around here.

“We really didn’t get into our groove as an offense,” Crompton said. “When you don’t, some doubts come, but the upside is we were in that game at the end. We had four turnovers and we still came up 1 yard short. That is the one positive.”

That is a quote from Crompton after the game. The guy is in denial in a big way. WE had 4 turnovers? No, HE had 4 turnovers.

yes.. I wanted to believe, but it's time to get some more experience for Stephens and look to the future.

Personal accountability has never been his strong suit.

I wish learning from his mistakes and actually improving his performance came as easily as talking the talk. He's another Jesse Palmer color commentator.

He should have had the guts to stick it out.

In reference to B.J. Coleman.

I've been to 2 of UTC's games this season and, despite the lower talent level, Coleman is a head-and-shoulders better than Crompton. The guts to stick it out? Coleman looked 2x better than Crompton at the Orange and White game and now that he's at UTC with worse coaching, a worse OL and worse talent around him he STILL looks better than Crompton.

The point was that Kiffin wasn't going to give him a chance. Practice warrior Crompton is just too good.........in practice. Coleman had the hindsight to see that he wasn't getting a fair shake, despite Crompton's completely PATHETIC game. IF you get a chance to go to a UTC game, I would advise you to do so. Coleman doesn't bounce the ball to receivers, doesn't stare them down, and goes through as much of a progression as you can at that level.

That was a coaching error, pure and simple.

Haha, have you ever seen a picture of Crompton? He's got a face for radio, if that. He looks mildly retarded. This coming from about every UT fan that I ask. You give him too much.

Agree 100 percent with you, crompton needs the same play book that a peewee coach has for 8 year olds playing football he just doesn't have it between his ears to be a top QB.

As bad as his play was, his lack of leadership is the biggest problem. It didn't look like any offensive player had confidence in him yesterday.

Agreed. My biggest concern was when the announcers said he sat on the bench by himself ,with his head down, away from all his teammates. As I said on another post, his mental toughness is fragile. Up one week, in the dumps the next. His problem is not physical ability.

Crompton didn't show any kind of poise or leadership... he was resposible for 4 turnovers.. He had more interceptions than receptions.... Unfortunately Phil Fulmer left this product with lane kiffin and now he is forced to deal with it. He needs to be riding pine... Florida will eat him up next week. Were going to look like a Grasscutter Team with up the gut handoffs, because crompton lacks the ability to read the defense and make good choices.

you hit the nail on the head.

Just asking the question, but is it possible Crompton intentionally throws games? Does he have big gambling debts?

I just don't see how someone can be that good in practice. Convince 2 head coaches that he should be the starter. Yet he alone finds ways to lose games that we are heavily favored during the season.

As strange as that comments sounds, it did cross my mind. But I was thinking more of an AL(Alabama)-Qaeda conspiracy.:naughty:

Ive read comments from last weeks laugher till this weeks crompton here we go again crap. The coaching staff is faced with the fears that .... Crompton is a cancer for this team and they had better re-group something fast cause Fla will beat the the brakes off that qb if he is on the field.

No thanks. 2 coaching staffs selected Crompton over BJ. He barely won the starting job at UTC. Yesterday he threw 2 interceptions and lost to Furman.
