Jonathan Crompton... (merged)

Maybe we should just bench all the QBs and give up passing for the rest of the season. We could switch to the wishbone like Ga Tech and put Gerald Jones in the quarterback slot. At least it would surprise Florida.

Godfatha hit it on the head. Stephens is a gamer. Im not saying he's a manning clone, but he has a presence in the pocket that Crompton does not.
Ive been involved with coaching younger kids for the better part of 22 years now and some kids look great in practice and others look horrible. Gamers show up when the lights come on and goats do not.
You cant base everything from practice and now as painful as it is, I hope CLK has learned that lesson.

truthfully I don't blame them for recruiting Crompton, he was highly thought of, but that was 5 years ago and he just didn't pan out.

What I blame them for is not recruiting any other highly ranked QB prospects since then. You always need talented guys in the pipeline.

You can blame Fulmer for ruining Crompton or you can say he just doesn't have the mental toughness to play at this level, but I think it's clear that he is not going to overcome his mental issues.

Still Lovin' Mike Hamilton?

Don't blame JC, blame Kiffin.

That game was not Lane Kiffin's fault. The O line got pushed off the ball constantly. Crompton seemed stoned most of the game and the receivers didn't run good routes. The only fault that was obvious on Kiffin was he backed off his commitment to play the freshmen. Meaning instead of giving some of those freshmen receivers some deep routes, he played it closer to the vest. Remind you of anyone? You can't blame him for not opening up the passing game more though because every snap it seemed JC had someone in his face and routes being locked down. If anyone is at fault. It's the Oline and JC's decision making the first 3 qtrs. It was a total team loss though. Every position screwed up their execution in one way or another. This is a young team as people have said a million times. There will be some heartache before things get drastically better.

1. just 1 game ...like i said i'll get back with you in 3 years on how lane is doing ...everyone has growing paints

2. gerald jones shouldn't have been on the field he ran bad routes and was hurt

3. Our defense was amazing monte deserves the game ball ... they were out there all the time and shut ucla down ...

4. why is lane affraid of pulling crompton for nick ? didn't he tell him that he's been wrong b4 to stay ready ? hmmmm
5. go vols! man up you pussy's

what color are kiffins?

you are a complete fake a hole fan. praise them like they can win the nc last week and now curse them cause they loose a close game. are there areas to improve? of course, but i for one refuse to boo or bad mouth any of the guys no matter how they played.

AMEN BROTHER. F#$@ these fair weather fans. It's one game. We all should have known that these things were gonna happen. It's the first season with these new coaches. They have to be allowed to make some mistakes. I agree that Stephens deserves a chance to start after today but I'll let the coaches make the decisions. Come on guys. Root for your team. things dont always go the way you plan, especially the first season. Give these boys a break, they did wanna win.

Go VOLS!!!

I ain't gonna present what I saw.....but just summarize as far as Crompton "Its Time" for a permanent spot on the sidelines.

I'm pretty new on this board and you all do not know me very well, but some you "Fans" on here make me sicker than the Vols did today. I agree Crompton sucked and some of the play calling was bad but you all act like we were supposed to when a national championship this year with a new coaching staff and a bunch of freshman, come on now, seriously, I think alot of people got their hopes up way to much. Everyone should just calm down and take a deep breath, enjoy football season while it is here. I want to win just as bad as everyone else but in a way I'm kind of glad we lost i know it sounds weird but maybe it will bring everyone back down to earth.

I understand that you are new to this board. It is the place where we can come and vent our frustations over how bad our team performed. That is just it. Getting beat by a better team or getting beat after you compeated to the best of your abibility is one thing. When you beat yourself and you do not execute... that is another story.

Crompton has ALWAYS stared down the receiver he is gonna throw to. That might work against a division 3 school or in practice but not against an opposing defense with any talent...hence the reason he throws so many picks and gets so many balls batted down at the line. He has no pocket awareness, doesnt step up, and panics everytime he gets a rush and that kills his field vision. Has there ever been a worse QB in the history of Tennessee football that for some reason keeps getting to start? Man I cant wait until he is gone....I just have to keep telling myself to be patient.:hmm:

"An inept Jonathan Crompton couldn't do anything with the last-minute opportunity after getting the ball back, taking a sack and throwing three incomplete passes."

From espn.com

This is frustrating...really frustrating for all of us fan. I am not even sure if i should feel bad for Crompton, he has had enough chances...for the sake of ***** he has been in TN for 5 years now...yeah! we can all talk about how he had worked with five different offensive coordinators, for me thats an exposition to different styles and getting more soaked up in the game of football...., we should stop feeling bad for him for having to work with different offensive scheme and start realising his learning ability and resiliency...he just DONT GOT IT...GET IT....Nobody should deserve to start after he throws five EASY interceptions to a mediocre team like UCLA...

I hate to pile on the kid, but i called it on a post last week on this site after the WKU game. It was obvious to me how much more relaxed Nick Stephens was on his only 2 attempts @WKU
CLK is in a pickle now. He has lost confidence in Crompton as displayed by the second half play calling. Now he will either have to start Crompton again against the gators ( dear lord help us) , or start NS with virtually no playing time under his belt at the swamp.
I thought that there was no doubt he would put Stephens in after halftime, but the reluctance to do so reminded me of Fulmer.
I wish with all my heart that Crompton was the man.
He's not.
Time to move on coach.

Excellent analysis. :hi:

It's not just one game, as some of you are saying in this thread. JC completely fell apart in the 2nd half, and then Kiffin consistently ran the ball because he didn't trust JC to throw it. What can Kiffin do now except bench JC and start NS?

Jonathan Crompton should be benched for the rest of the year. No matter what else happens, I would rather lose with Lamaison than have that guy out there breaking my heart.

I agree. I think there is something wrong with his mindset. I am sure his fellow players loved the efn pep talk he gave them in the 4th about it being his fault.

That is understatement.

He single handedly changed the game momentum, tired out the defense, and gave 0 reason for O or D to dig deep. The all know that they are short handed in the QB department.

I like the rest of our team but Crapton?
:the_finger:
You have had your last chance.

And you look like a redneck pot smoker. Shave that mustache and go back the NC.

hey, u guys were saying Crompton would throw for 400 yards and 4 TDs only days ago. so if you're going to give props to him when he wins, you better support him when he loses.

and congrats to a good game. it was a hard fought victory and someone had to come out on top. the season is young, time to wreak havoc!

You are so right. Just this week everyone was on his jock and now he has a bad game everyone is calling for his head. I agree that he should not be out there but come on people...

I don't have the heart to go through all of the posts on my mobil, so I will leave it at two thoughts:

1 our offense stinks

2 crompton is, was, and will be for the rest opf the season, as good as we've got, so pray he gets better

That is the sad part and why I do not blame Kiffin.

Thanks Billy
Does anybody remember the "tight" competition for the starting spot at qb during the first two weeks of fall camp?
If the competition was as tight as the press led us to believe, how in the world can CLK not give Stephens the benefit of a doubt?

UT has been on the verge of an offensive collapse for years. The talent just isn't there. Last year we hit rock bottom and this year we still don't have the talent. The most glaring problem of course is at quarterback. If the recruiters can't get a Division I level quarterback into this program, many head coaches may be losing their jobs.

How do we get the talent? Where the hell is it?
