I can think of one coach named Jon who I wouldn't mind seeing in orange and white, and that's Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Jon Tenuta. Here are my reasons:

1) Georgia Tech is noted for having a swarming defense that can confound anyone from true freshman to fifth-year seniors

2) Georgia Tech has academic standards higher than Notre Dame's, yet they contend on the basis of their defense. (How tough, you ask? The campus is given 1 star on nightlife, and it's in the middle of Atlanta)

3) Tenuta's defense was enough to overcome Reggie Ball's ineptitude a number of times, thus putting him on the level of Anne Sullivan for being a miracle worker.

I have brought his name up a few times on this board. I live in Atlanta, and he is absolutely respected in this town, and considered the reason that Tech is a good team, and not irrelavant anymore.

Tenuta plays a pressure style that is great when it's working, but he is also a little slow to switch things up sometimes. Boston College ate him alive last week when he kept blitzing.

I can't remember to many dominate tech defenses in the past has this guy been there very long?

Well, I would say your right about changing up defenses, but this is who he is. But the BC game showed what a great O-line, and a big time QB can do. You didn't hear about there D to much because , of the Calvin Johnson shadow, and the futility of Reggie Ball.

Judy Tenuta

Good reference to her in "Waiting for Guffman" - Corky's wearing a Judy Tenuta shirt. Hilarious, and I didn't even know who she was.

BC also has Gosder Cherilous on the offensive line, who can singlehandedly negate anything thrown at his side of the line.

Besides, I think GT has a level of overall player that's probably a half-cut below teams like Clemson and Va Tech and a full cut below who Florida State used to be. And as I said, ANYONE who can overcome Reggie Ball's ineptitude is a miracle worker.

If Tennessee hires Jon Tenuta it will be an indication that President Petersen, Mike Hamilton, and the Athletics Board are looking to deemphasize football. Hire a coordinator from a middle of the pack ACC school? I'd love to be the PR guy who had to try and sell that decision.

That is true...

But I agree with Hat on this.

Tenuta has been exceptional at every stop that he's made, and Georgia Tech isn't exactly a hotbed of talent.

I figure it can't be any tougher of a sell than "Wait, so Florida is hiring a guy who two years ago was at Bowling Green?"

When Tenuta leads a Utah team to a BCS bowl win then you'll have an arguement.

The guy who was at Bowling Green had just led Utah to a BCS bowl as a head coach. Tenuta is a coordinator at an also ran program.

The funny thing is that I can't remember Utah actually beating any quality teams that year. I think that they were in the "others receiving votes" category to begin, they pounded a vastly overrated Texas A&M team in the first game to get into the top 15, then ran through the likes of Utah State and Nevada to set up a Fiesta Bowl date with a 4- or 5-loss Pitt team.

I'm fairly certain that Utah could have held their own against Oklahoma, Auburn, and USC, but it's not as if they traversed a brutal schedule and came out on top.

Utah didn't lose to a terrible Virginia team

I don't remember Georgia Tech beating many quality teams during Tenuta's entire tenure.

Okay, if we are going to talk about a coach who can more out of less, try Paul Johnson. He comes in almost last in recuiting every year (and not because of his skills) and still puts up a mid teir quality team. Plus that offense would give the SEC fits

UT should have no problem hiring Tenuta as a defensive coordinator if we really want him. We don't need to use the position of head coach to lure him away from the Yellowjackets.

Well, Tech ponied up on that deal, and payed him a fortune to stay. He's gotten a lot of offers the past few years, and turned them down to stay at Tech.

See Hat, I'm not the only one who thinks this way.:p

Frankly, I wouldn't mind seeing one of the lower division head coaches brought up...if we make a change. Instead of the same old guys, unless maybe his name is...Stoops, or somebody like that.

It seems to me some of the best talent is yet unheralded.
