I don’t see a thread on here about this. Pretty underwhelming hire, IMO. Napier had a better resume when he took the job than Sumrall has right now.

😂

Glad to see you’re still alive.

Florida’s schedule looks much more manageable next year with no LSU, no Tennessee, no Miami, while playing Ole Miss with a new coach, Auburn with a new coach and Vandy with no Pavia. And a down South Carolina.

Sumrall may be getting the scheduling breaks that Napier never got in order to gain a little traction.

I actually like Sumrall quite a bit. Unlike Napier, Sumrall has been winning in a pretty competitive conference the last 2 years. And his offensives have been very good for a defensive minded coach.

Among head coaches known to be available, he was in my top 4, behind Kelly. And I think he's the 3rd best hire so far, behind Kiffin and Franklin, though he's a clear tier below those 2 guys.

May do a decent job. I don't know anything about him. The pickings were getting slim with all these open jobs.

Who were you realistically expecting to get? Once LSU became available, you had zero shot at Kiffin. So unless you wanted James Franklin or Brian Kelly, who were realistically expecting to get? Jedd Fisch?

I personally had no confidence in our AD to pull Kiffin, or any established head coach at another school.

Our Mississippi State AD got Mississippi State results.

He got lucky that there's pure chaos above him on the org chart. Hiring a national title-winning basketball coach doesn't hurt either.

Hiring Golden got him an extension from our last lame duck president.

Blind squirrels, nuts and whatnot.
And I know UF was good all year, but he was a February and March unreal heater away from the narrative around that hire being totally different. That was a very well-timed run.

He has a better career record and is playing in his 4th consecutive conference championship game. His resume is as good as you could ask for from a G5 coach.

My evil twin, Camaroparts spent some time lurking on florida boards yesterday. They are not too happy.

Speaking of Fisch-what happened with him?

I thought he was Florida's fallback from Kiffin?

Lawrence, if it’s any consolation Sumrall said “Aight” twice in his presser today. Sounded just like Saban. Of course, Jeremy Pruitt used to say it too.

He also said he is close friends with Kiffin. Not sure I would have said that after stringing Florida along and after the debacle at Ole Miss.

I don't know how he'll do at Florida, but the press conference was really good and he seems like a good guy. Of course that doesn't always amount to much when you look at a snake like Kiffin leaving to LSU.

Both Matt Barrie and Paul Finebaum said on their podcast yesterday they thought Florida and Stricklin messed up another hire. Said that in their opinions, Sumrall and Florida are not a good match. Both men also compared Sumrall to Napier, which I’m sure thrills Gator fans 😆
