See what type of good conversations we can have when we all stop the name-calling?

You are correct about the Browns. This whole deal is going to go through Cleveland from some of my conversations. There's been some very interesting conversations on this front. I will not go into that any further.

As to the Saban deal, that really can go both ways. If I were an opposing coach that I knew I had someone else out-classed, I would pump him up too. Also, he coached with Saban for seven years, yet remained a position coach. He was never trusted with any coordinator's job. It cuts both ways.

Truth, Logic, and Reason. You're not playing fair Jay.

Big East....barely winning record. What is it, 19-13 or something like that? Stellar....really impressive.

From a looser to a winner with steady improvement beating teams that were beating them now undefeated.
is this not what you want?
in his 3rd year.

You may want someone else but saying Strong is unimpressive is just silly.

Conversations with former players mainly, and a few others.

It's like he hasn't bothered to read any if his favorite thread. Drive-by posters are fun, especially the oppositional ones. Contrary is what grandaddy used to call it.

He was barely at .500 prior to this season. Underwhelming is the word I used, and at this point that is what he is.

Sorry...I want better. At this point he is what we've had for about 7 years.

So taken a proven loser and having a 65% winning record (that's above .500) your first 2 years, then opening your 3rd year 5-0 is something you don't want to be around.

Instead you champion a guy who has never recruited or coached collage ball. Who hasn't coached in yrs and was fired from his last job.

I can find no holes in your argument.
(Sarcasm in case you missed it)

The Big East is not the SEC. If we hire him we're shooting low again IMO.

I'd much prefer a proven NFL coach with a solid record in the league compared to his peers....someone with a wide, varied, and deep coaching background, yes.

My job is not to convince you....I've said you're entitled to your opinion.

I hope Charlie Strong never steps on Neylands sidelines.

When Bama threw their money at a coach, they knew what they were getting - a coach that won on their level. A coach that knew how to recruit. You cannot say that about Gruden. Never been a cfb HC, hadnt recruited in 21 years. Risk too great.

Money helps solve problems but relying on money to solve it wont work. Looking at Gruden's body of work, that fits perfectly into "a loser continue to ground your program" thus he was fired. Dont need any of that on our hill.

So what do you think about the money spent to bring Dooley in?

Not too mention Strong is slowly positioning himself as one of the better recruiters in the country.

L'Ville is going 12-0 this year. He's going to be a hot name.

Good for him. At the moment he is underwhelming. I wish him the best.

Jay,

How would "former players" or "others" have any factual idea what the big donors or the AD is thinking or doing buddy?

VFL...GBO!!!

He said I should replace the wall by his pool and build him a pergola. Then he gave me a check.

He also said Hart listens to them and reassures them that he's got it under control but won't be specific.

Sounds about right.

He's is underwhelming? How the hell is 5-0 in your third year underwhelming? He took over a freaking mess.

Success in the Big East is not indicative of coaching prowess. Sorry, 19-12 in that league is not overly impressive. He may very well stay undefeated this year, and become a hot property. He is not yet IMO.

I can respect that part of it, but he's not underwhelming.

at the time we didnt have much of an option since LK left in a hurry. We hired a guy with a losing record and paid him like he was a guy with a losing record. Right now he's the #11 in ranking of the salary in the SEC.

Should we have paid more? well yeah but again, we didnt have the luxury of time to find a better hire. We were days from NSD. We bought a band aid instead of a surgery hoping it would fix the problem. Unfortunately it hasnt.

I like Strong. Any defensive minded person should like him. I would be lying if I said that I wouldn't be let down if that's the case. However, either is better than the status-quo. I'm still hanging my hat with Gruden until he is here or he takes a coaching job elsewhere. I have to have hope in something, and our current coach doesn't provide me with that....at all.
