Jon Gruden (Tampa Bay Bucs) discussion

My thought ealier today was that his comment that he'd stay as long as the Glazers would have him would be hard to dodge. Then, I thought, wait... the Glazers probably wouldn't have him if he accepted a job somewhere else.

I think it's a rehearsed response to a known inquiry--and I think he did a great job with it. Enough to dismiss the media, but not enough to dismiss the AD. That's the fine line that's hard to walk, imo.

Now, it's still hard to imagine that a guy who is coaching a playoff caliber NFL team will leave that to coach our beloved vols.

But, on our side, we need all the help we can bet out of money, Cindy, and Cindy's mom. Bascially, the more UT women we can get involved in this decision, the better our odds!:)

Then, we just have to hope the coach has a soft spot for leading the Big Orange back to the elite in college football.

As hard as those NFL guys work, yet some dude from Utah stumbles into Gainesville and gets all that attention in his sunshine state after his team won the SuperBowl XXXVII must be noticable to guy only two-and-one half hours away. Surely, he could find some thrill in giving a dose of reality to the 'Urban Legend', Saban, Miles, and Richt in an annual beatdown that we all know they deserve.

How could that not be more fun than the Bucs beating whoever they call a rival?

Because, and I know this will be hard for you to imagine, TN football is not that big of a deal to people outside of your fan base. I'm sorry to say that as I have been very considerate in my posts here, but it is reality.

Go back and look at my comments in this thread (just click on my screen name). I have outlined for you folks why there was never a chance this particular man would ever come to TN or any other college job. I completely understand why my comments would be ignored, but unfortunatley for those here wanting Gru, it would never happen. You folks are not the slightest bit familiar with his situation in Tampa. I am, and have told you, oh, about 2000 posts ago, that this was wishful thinking on your part. Just because TN fans want him, doesn't mean there is a price he would accept or any other reason to leave his "life-long dream job." Yes, he "coached" there for ONE YEAR (as a grunt tape splicer - not to mention his wife being a cheerleader there - how ridiculous does that sound?), but that doesn't register compared to being a child watching his dad be a part of the expansion Bucs.

I love your enthusiasm for your team and I know you will get a good coach, but you guys should seriously go back and read some of the reasons your fans thought he would come, and if you can be rational for a second, you would perhaps laugh.

TN is a great football program and will get a great coach as the good coaches who want to be a COLLEGE COACH will beg to go there. The man you have dedicated countless hours to in this thread is wired for the pro game and HAS his, again, "dream job" in our league. The owners gave him control of the Bucs the moment he won the SB. Thus, the reason the previous GM left for Atlanta. He HAS everything he ever wanted in coaching, in TAMPA. ...and we are delighted to have him, regardless of what some fans that frequent our message boards may feel.

The interest in Gru is much appreciated I'm sure, but there was NEVER a shot at this PRO COACH. I still believe the gentleman in Lubbock is the guy to pursue.
Good night Vol Fans and all my best!

Honestly, give up the act it's getting old. Why do you feel the need to repost the same garbage over and over? You keep just basically bumping your post.

You haven't said anything majorly different in this post than in any other of your defensive, I'm scared to lose my NFL coach to a college job posts.

If Tennessee football is so irrelevant - why do you feel the need to come on a UT message board and shoot down a innocuous rumor?

I honestly hope to God that Jon Gruden comes to UT just to piss you off and make you look like fool for coming to our board and shoving your indisputable facts down our throat. Go back to the Tampa Bay boards and worry about your own team.

/rant over

By the way - his life long dream job comment was amusing. Learn to identify coach speak.

I think he has stated that.. He wanted his dad to come to Oakland but Tampa wouldn't allow it..

So most likely he will try to get his dad to wherever he goes..

This is some funny $hite!!! "Gru"???? "the gentleman in Lubbock"??? Who posts and talks like that? No body!!! Now if you say that you are on Gruden's staff in Tampa and your name is "fill in the blank"...then that's one thing. But gimme an ever-loving break with the "just click on my name"....and "I've told you a thousand posts back". After 10 posts with no proof, your opinions aren't worth a bucket of pi$$.

Are you freakin' kidding! Vol fanaticism is a global phenomenon! And no matter what you say, you can't demoralize this small representation of the Vol Nation! We're down now, but oh, we'll be back.

And then there will be hell to pay.

Absolutely... somebody put the Bucs on the schedule and let's settle this (but not with our current team, we'll need to give Jon a few years to rebuild).

Wow the Gruden Head Coaching rumor was wishful thinking? Who knew? At least we still got Cowher in our back pocket.

:eek:lol:

If we do move on and start talking about Cowher, we're going to have to put in extra time here to get more posts in Cowher's thread before he is hired. Speaking of that, I don't think there is a Cowher thread.

The Mods only made threads for realistic options (based on infinite insider information)... thus the Gruden thread.

Good night Vol Fans and all my best!

yeah right! just ask Jimmy Johnson when he was at Dallas and Why he left.

Hey what about Jimmy Johnson.
Look what he done with the Miami Hurricanes, and with the Dallas Cowboys.
Johnson is one of only two head coaches to win both a college football national championship and a Super Bowl. The other is Barry Switzer, his college teammate and rival head coach.
Johnson began as an assistant coach at Louisiana Tech University in 1965 and Picayune Memorial High School in Picayune, Mississippi in 1966. In 1967 he was an assistant at Wichita State University, then in 1968 and 1969 he served under Johnny Majors at Iowa State University in Ames. In 1970 he moved on to another Big 8 school to become a defensive line coach at the University of Oklahoma, working alongside future rival Barry Switzer. In 1973, he returned to Arkansas, where he served as defensive coordinator through the 1976 season. Johnson had hopes of being named head coach when Frank Broyles retired, but was passed over for Lou Holtz. Holtz offered to retain Johnson on his staff, but Johnson decided it would be better to move on and amicably parted company with his alma mater. He became an assistant coach at the University of Pittsburgh under Jackie Sherrill in 1977 and 1978. His tenure at Pittsburgh was also highlighted by his introduction to a Pitt defensemen and then-assistant coach Dave Wannstedt who eventually teamed up with Johnson again at the University of Miami, the Cowboys and the Dolphins. He coached for five seasons at Oklahoma State University from 1979 to 1983 before taking the head coaching job at the University of Miami

My new neighbors moved here because the wife wanted to move closer to her family and her husband quit a very good job in Colorado. I do think Gruden coming is now a longshot at best, but its not really that ridiculous.

Take me however you like, but one of us will be proven to be correct, no?

My question is WTF do you care? We don't come around peeing on your fantasies of making love with a woman under 300lbs . Do we? Why does it bother you that some delusional Vol fans on a message board want to hope they can lure Gruden to Knoxville?

Wait a minute.....I know. You're an attention whore, now I get it. You want to edgeekate us wit all ur inside NFL knowins. Well carry on then, if you feel the need.

Regardless, TB doesn't win a playoff game again this year and he won't be the coach in TB in 3 years. It was good knowing you. You better quit worrying about the delusional UT fans and worry about finding a new D coordinator, QB, feature RB, and at least one legitimate WR. Well maybe not a feature RB, I'm sure you guys could bring back Alstott and move Ernest Graham back to RB. I heard the Notre Dame job may come open soon so I would also start checking their boards. Have fun slipping in the NFC south.

If we hire some other coach, Im still going to keep this rumor going. Gruden will be the coach at Tennessee at some point. ha ha
