Jon Gruden (Tampa Bay Bucs) discussion

Ahhh well. Let's just hope that whoever comes in is someone that most people can rally behind. Who know's? We may be "surprised".

"I've said it from the beginning, this is the only job I've really ever wanted," Gruden said, as quoted by the St. Petersburg Times. "As long as the Glazers will have me, I'll be here. I've got a lot of respect for Tennessee. I grew up down there a little bit. My wife is from there. But this is where I want to be, and I can only make myself that clear."

Gruden has a contract with Tampa Bay that runs through the 2011 season. But he said that even if he wasn't under contract, college football isn't where his heart is.

"I've wanted to be in the NFL my whole life, and this is something I'm really excited to do," Gruden said. "This is where I want to be, and I'll leave it at that."

Add another one to the list

Volmanbill, what is tribevol saying, besides we didnt offer enough money? Im having a VERY hard time believing that or anything he has said to this point.

ha ha. I am sure he does. It makes me happy every time I look it up on the internet. We at least have my avatar to look at and remember.

It was pretty much the only thing that brought the ENTIRE gruden thread to a DEAD STOP. I had been driving all day from NC to Nashville so it was a definate great break from the day.

Damn you GA for taking it down so fast. ha ha.

Gruden can deny all he wants at this point because no coach that is positioned for a playoff run is going to say that they are interested in coaching somewhere else. It would be professional suicide.

Like they were laughing at Bama?

That was pretty much the case, but Saban was not on the best of terms in South Florida. Phins fans have pretty high expectations and he wasn't meeting them.

While he has his critics in TB, Gruden seems much more popular than was Saban.

That probably doesn't matter. I agree that Gruden's statement sounds about the same as the one he's used in the past. There's wiggle room in them, but I'm starting to think he's not coming.

I hope I'm wrong.

We shouldn't loose either Davis or Kiffin if we've got a shot at them.

There is a thread saying Hammy wants to name the coach by 12/1. If that's true then it must be a college guy or Kiffin. I would love for it to have been Gruden, but I get the feeling it's just not going to happen.

He may want to, but I doubt it happens at that time. It probably won't happen until after the SEC Championship game.

You mean the ACC championship game. I got a funny feeling they want Butch Davis. He is the most proven college commodity on the list. At least he is the only one who has coached at a top tier college program.

I mean Hamilton can wherever he wants to save this recruiting class and end the HC search soon. After following our coach searching for a while, my expectation is already high on NFL coaches. I just don't think Brester or Leach or Kelly can give me the same level of excitement as a former NFL coach. So I am not gonna give a penny to UT AD until they start to win a lot of games again, or hire a former NFL HC.

I think I am not only speaking for myself.
