Jon Gruden (Tampa Bay Bucs) discussion

I tried telling you before, but here is what you asked for, so here it is:

Gruden dismisses Volunteers coaching rumors

Gruden dismisses Volunteers coaching rumors
Coach Jon Gruden made it clear he has no interest in the head coaching job at the University of Tennessee.

"I've said it from the beginning, this is the only job I've really ever wanted,'' Gruden said. "As long as the Glazers will have me, I'll be here. I've got a lot of respect for Tennessee. I grew up down there a little bit. My wife is from there. But this is where I want to be and I can only make myself that clear.''

Gruden would not entertain questions about whether he would ever have an interest in coaching college football.

"I don't even want to start that,'' Gruden said. "I've wanted to be in the NFL my whole life and this is something I'm really excited to do. This is where I want to be and I'll leave it at that.''

Do you seriously read that and not see how carefully he chose his words? He never once said I do not want to coach at Tennessee. He is choosing his words in a way in which it is very evident that he does not want to completely close the door to a possiblity he would leave Tampa Bay. I have no idea how strongly he would actually consider the move. My guess would be that he would stay put. But using those quotes as evidence he is not coming is just an inaccurate observation.

After that article I am pretty sure that we aren't getting Gruden now. I think the only shot we have left of getting him is if the article was made up. I noticed it was just a blog so the guy that wrote it may not have even talked to Gruden.

The only other scenario where I see us getting him is if UT offered him a ridiculous raise like $6 or $7 milllion.

But all I know is... Hammy better shell out some big bucks and get someone really good or our program is in BIG trouble.

Last week Gruden/UT rumors were national news..... PTI, Around the Horn, ESPN Radio, etc..... So IF Gruden really made these comments then why isn't anyone else piling on?

Ive been looking all over and there's nothing, nada, no-can-do, zilch....

Thanks for the info, but I still don't believe that he "dismissed Volunteers coaching rumors." You kind of have to strikeout what the blogger said and just look at what Gruden said. To me Gruden said what any coach in his situation would say. His quotes don't deny anything. This is just a way to get the reporters, fans, and players off his back that way they can concentrate on making a run.

Didn't butch Davis basically say the same thing? But funny how everyone in the media is still saying that he is the front runner. Yet gruden makes his comments, and all of a sudden we need to forget about him as a possibility.

The media keeps saying this cause they either 1) know something we dont or 2) They remember the Nick Saban drama.

Well, if you want to look at it that way, I'll then ask you: Do you seriously read that (which has actual quotes from the man) and read that he wants to coach at Tennessee?

Look, I'm not a TN hater, I've said before I enjoy TN football, but I am someone with a bit of knowledge on this coach. I have posted very objectively and have tried to give logic on why this isn't going to happen. The dots that you guys are trying to connect make no sense. I love your enthusiasm and understand why you would want him. However, you have to step away from being a Vol fan and look at it realistically, which I have tried to lay out for you. The differences between Gru and Saban are huge. Without going over all the points I made earlier, I'll just add yet another couple of points of reason. Have any of you seen the new Bucs Team Headquarters that are only 1 year old? They are world class. They happen to be the HQs of the team the man watched his father be a part of as a kid and his dream job, which he has said for years. Furthermore, the man has unbelievably had to live down people claiming he won a super bowl with someone elses players. The Bucs gave up a tremendous amount in draft picks to get him. He won the SB with an aging team that had to be re-built. After dealing with no 1st or 2nd rd picks for his first two years, he finally has been able to build a team. Look at all the youth on his Oline and other than Brooks, Barber, and Carter, the D has been rebuilt. Now, he has been driven to prove he could build a team and win with "his" players and the fruits of his work are just starting to pay off. You think he is going to leave this NOW. If so, you don't know the man. And for those of you who claim he would have more control in college, you simply aren't familiar with the Bucs. He is in control. The GM was brought from Oakland and guess who essentially hand-picked him.

Gang, I'm not here because I want to be a party pooper. I'm here to try to provide reason on a topic I know a bit about. Fianlly, the "blogger" in the article I linked to is the lead Bucs beat man for his paper and represents the St Pete Times on national NFL shows, etc.. It comes from someone who is at the Bucs facility every day. I'll leave you guys now to continue believing something that doesn't make sense, if you like. Again, best wishes in your search.

My point is that no one really knows what these coaches are really thinking when they answer these types of questions during the season.

Regardless of what everyone is saying, there is still one strong element that suggests Gruden is still a possibility. Other than the post saying he was NOT interested, it is NOT being reported anywhere else. If ESPN, or any other noteworthy media doesn't report it, then it's not necessarily a fact. We need you Chucky!!!! Go Vols!!!!

Just saw this. Gruden says he has no interest in UT coaching job. Sorry if this is a re-post.

Gruden dismisses Volunteers coaching rumors

Well who knows but to be fair the post is from a blog and govols has now put it up just copying the blog. If it was at a press conference it would be verified maybe later it will be but so far it is just a blog posting. I could do it too watch.

Today Gruden said:

"It is Fooball Time in Tennessee and I am the new coach of the vols"

We will see if it is real I am sure later tonight. But this is all becoming amusing. And it is just beginning for the next month or so.

The team just re-convened this morning from having been given a week off. The media are allowed access to practices for 30 minutes before being locked out. It is during this time, the media folks closest to the team are able to ask questions - not that they will be answered, but this one obviously was. For those who understand nfl teams don't practice on Monday, but only watch film, having been on bye and been given last week off, the Bucs are getting in an extra day of practice today.

As for the individual who suggests I'm a Bucs fan - something like that. Gotta run.

Take care folks and go get yourselves a good coach! College ball isn't the same with UT not near the top.

Come back and celebrate with us after Jon agrees to our terms!

Jon is that you? We will keep it a secret until you are ready to make the move in a month or so...
