Jon Gruden (Tampa Bay Bucs) discussion

A friend of mine talked with Jay Gruden

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They are good friends from his days with the Nashville Kats. Keep in mind this is 2nd hand info so take it as such, but I do believe it to be accurate.

According to my friend, Jay said that his brother is definitely interested in the job. He cited several reasons, all of which we have talked about on here already. Mostly it was all family related. He said that Hamilton has already talked with Gruden's agent and that he is definitely in the mix for the job. His(Gruden's) biggest concern was that he wanted to stay low key during the whole process. Apparently he thought that he might be more interested in the job than UT would be in him and he doesn't want to burn any bridges with the Glazers or the NFL if it didn't work out. Hamilton assured Gruden's agent that the interest was mutual and that he would do his part to make sure that his name stayed "under the radar".
He said that was really about all that was said about it. But, at the end of the conversation my friend told Jay that he hoped that he would be back in TN soon. He said Jay's response was "I f'ng hope so too man, I f'ng hope so too". Scouts.com
I think he has done this by hyping Davis. Knoxville and other UT media is downplaying Gruden and pushing davis, leach and others.
(Sorry if this has be posted)

Me too!! Me too!!

After the Miles/Michigan scandal last year it's completely plausible Gruden requested things are kept quiet and Hamilton would be a "complete" idiot if he leaked any interest from Gruden.

Jimmy Hyams continues to deny Gruden saying he doesnt believe the "Gruden nonsense" on Nashville radio this morning.

This just gives me more reason to want Gruden to come here so i can call into the station here and rail on them for paying this jackass to call in and give them inside info on UT sports.

Sure hopes it works out so we can get Gruden would love for him to bring Monte with him. I dont think the salery problem will be that big of an issue especially if Haslem is supporting Hamilton.

Uhm, Monte will not follow Gruden here. If he goes anywhere it will be with Lane but i would imagine he will stay in the Pros regardless unless hes hit the required number of years to retire on full benefits for a coach.

It drives me nuts when people have nothing but an opinion and paint it as fact.

Jimmy Hyams is a long time UT reporter that gets his info from "inside sources". Other words he knows what Hamilton leaks.

I tried telling you before, but here is what you asked for, so here it is:

Gruden dismisses Volunteers coaching rumors

Gruden dismisses Volunteers coaching rumors
Coach Jon Gruden made it clear he has no interest in the head coaching job at the University of Tennessee.

"I've said it from the beginning, this is the only job I've really ever wanted,'' Gruden said. "As long as the Glazers will have me, I'll be here. I've got a lot of respect for Tennessee. I grew up down there a little bit. My wife is from there. But this is where I want to be and I can only make myself that clear.''

Gruden would not entertain questions about whether he would ever have an interest in coaching college football.

"I don't even want to start that,'' Gruden said. "I've wanted to be in the NFL my whole life and this is something I'm really excited to do. This is where I want to be and I'll leave it at that.''

Seems I recall another NFL coach who went a similar route on this subject and denied, even laughed about the possibility. And then guess what....it's all about the money baby.

Not like I either want to confirm or deny this report but it's a blog just like all the others saying that the opposite.

Yes, one without experiencing success in the league. I provided logic many pages of posts ago, but obviously one can't make others believe. The man is a pro coach, plain and simple. Also, the day a coach makes a huge change due to the fact his wife was a cheerleader somewhere, is the day I quit. or the fact, his in'laws live nearby, or the fact he was a grad asst for one year. It goes on and on. Think about that reasoning for just a second. You guys will find a hell of a coach, but it will be a college coach. You have a great tradition and a great coach who wants to coach college football will beg for your job. I wish you guys the best!

Party-pooper.

The season is shot to he!! so I'm just gonna keep on imaging Gruden saying a big fat YES to UT. I can't possibly be anymore disappointed to find out I'm wrong, than I am right now the second week of November in freaking football time in Tennessee.

Here's what I see when I read it:

Gruden dismisses Volunteers coaching rumors No he didn't!!!
Coach Jon Gruden made it clear he has no interest in the head coaching job at the University of Tennessee. Really? Where? Show me the verbage!!!

1) "I've said it from the beginning, this is the only job I've really ever wanted,'' Translation: "I always wanted to coach in the pros, and never really thought about college, but....

2) "As long as the Glazers will have me, I'll be here. I've got a lot of respect for Tennessee. I grew up down there a little bit. My wife is from there. But this is where I want to be and I can only make myself that clear.'' Translation: As long as the Glazers reject offers to let me out...I'll be here. But, I have a lot of respect for UT and I do have ties there, so who knows.

3) Gruden would not entertain questions about whether he would ever have an interest in coaching college football.

"I don't even want to start that,'' Gruden said. "I've wanted to be in the NFL my whole life and this is something I'm really excited to do. This is where I want to be and I'll leave it at that.'' Translation: I'm in the pros and that's what I know. This is where I am right now in my life. I don't want to speculate beyond that b/c it might jinks my talks with UT.

He has basically said a lot here without saying anything. He didn't come right out and say he wasn't interested and would reject any talk of coming to UT.

It drives me nuts when people have nothing but an opinion and paint it as fact.

It drives me nuts when people honestly think a top notch DC like that would even consider following Gruden to a college job making much less.

Be realistic before you try to get smart.
