Jon Gruden (Tampa Bay Bucs) discussion

They had someone on the WJOX/Sports Animal in Birmingham today saying it was a $4 mil per year offer. This morning on the Opening Drive, didn't catch who the guest was -- although I honestly thought it was a football coach named Bobby Joe? I know that totally sounds like Alabama but I thought he was a current coach talking about the situation. IIRC he was from the Big 12.

You people are fast!!! I'm going to join some random message board (Washington St, Rutgers, Baylor, etc) and post something about "Gruden to UT" and see how long it takes you jokers to find it!!! :D

I think the over/under would be about 17 minutes!! :p

Yeah, Super Bowl winners know nothing about football, HRP...

Since Gruden took over for the Tampa Bay Bucs in 2002, he has compiled a coaching record of 53-51( 51% winning percentage). Nearly half of his seasons have been losing seasons and he's only won 10 or more games 2 times. I don't know about you guys but I bet there are many NFL coaches out there with better success. I don't think people are looking any deeper than the fact that he has ties to UT and he won a Superbowl in 2002, with Tony Dungy's players. Remember, Fulmer won it all in 1998. Has he really shown us that he is capable of doing the things that are necessary to be successful at UT. Recruiting is the number one quality that our new coach should posses and we don't know if he can do that. The NFL game is much different than college and I think it's totally up in the air if Gruden can coach college football. It works both ways with college and NFL coaches. Spurrier and Carrol weren't successful at the pro level but are in college. What makes everyone think that the trend doesn't exist both ways. I'm not saying that Gruden would be a terrible hire because he does have a big name and brings alot of intensity to the table but I just don't think he is one of the top names that should be on our list. If someone can convince me otherwise, I would be glad to listen.

allthough i am accepting the fact we are losing a proven winning coach for 2 loosing seasons sence 93 but hey look at penn st they stuck it out with joe pa threw some bad years. now i think they are legit nat champ continders. ill eventually get over it

how well do you think he will deal with the recruting, relating to kids fresh outa high school, its obivouis hes a proven coach with a superbowl trophy.
