I would be very apprehensive if he is named HC. It could go very well...god knows the man can coach. But - I just don't seem him as the type at all that would want to deal with 18 year-old kids and their drama...and with kids that can't learn as quickly as he would like....we'll see. I'll be rooting for him if he is named, but I just don't see him changing enough to be happy at the college level. (all of this under the assumption, if course, that he would actually accept if he were actually offered...)

I'd chose an 18 year old kid over an adult prima donna to deal with any day. He'll get them while they're still impressionable, not once they've been seasoned by everybody else that influenced them into their adult years.

Gruden is free to get rid of the ones he can't work with now...and he does that. Depending on your ownership situation, you lose a degree of freedom in the move.

yeah, Mortensen said there was NO WAY he'd leave for college football. He had some pretty good points too.
he did mention that he thought Lane Kiffin would end up at either Washington or Tennessee.

I don' think there is any way in Hell that Gruden is coming here but I would never dismiss it because of a report from Mortensen. Wait for Jay Glazer to say something first, then you can believe it when Mort "breaks" the story a day later.

Not sure if this was said before but Gruden was a grad asst and wife a TN cheerleader and has family in the area. They have three young sons that they don't want to raise in the Tamp area. Sounds good to me.

Basically says that there is no chance because of Gruden signing a contract extensions. We at Tennessee, should know that contract extensions does not equal the coach coming back.

I'm a friend of a friend of Fulmer and he has signed a contract extension he will be coaching Tennessee through 2011!!!!!!!!!!!!!:crazy:

I find it interesting that a "friend" of Gruden said there is no way that Gruden is coming to UT. Gruden himself still has not commented, has he?

Here is a link a friend of mine sent me, it is doubtful that Gruden will come to UTK. After reading this article, I had overlooked the fact that Gruden does not have the best personality for the college game. I think he would do a great job as a coach/motivator, but I think it would be the other half the coaching job he may have issues with.

I agree that his lack of patience and complex offense might be an issue. However, from what I have read, big Jim Haslam is friends with the Glazers so that part would be helpful.

I am still not holding my breath on Gruden. The more I read and think about it, the less I think he is my #1 target.

I see a lot of assumptions here and there is just as many assumptions that support him coming here.

IMO it would be a big mistake to hire Gruden. I've heard that one of the reasons Gruden has stated he has no interest in college coaching is because of his utter dislike for recruiting. I don't believe he could/would recruit well enough to win against Fla/Ga/Ala/LSU or Auburn and would be ran out of UT within a short time.

I disagree strongly(with the bold)........would he want to? now that could be an issue.
